So I have been researching, and found this video of a HIGH-CIC device, and looks like a NBT CarPlay box was used.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N205PmUzfQs

https://www.naviplus.com.au/online-store/BMW-iDrive-CIC-HIGH-NBT-Apple-CarPlay-Retrofit-kit-p89243088

Any luck on this ? Just don’t want to order the incorrect CarPlay system.

I'm having the same "clicking noise" problem with the Andream box. When I long press button 8, my Andream box makes a clicking noise, shows the carplay interface correctly (it doesn't show "No Signal"), but gives a black screen after 0.5 sec :/
Could it be a fuse?

I'm still so confused. Has anyone got this working with CIC High and NBT screen?
I have a MY13 F30 (built 07/12) and would like to know what/where to order. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have a model 2014, but built in South Africa in December/2013. I t is the small display and no navigation.
I'm very curious how this history ended.
Maybe the person starting this thread gave up on this mod.

I did not give up on the mod quite yet. I am still in the process of researching and figuring out what the heck to do, here is what I learned, all the f30 screens i have seen, 6.5 and 8.8in have a 6 pin input. they dont have the conventional cic 4 pin lvds input. I have been in contact with the carlinkit and carplay box manufacturers, but due to the current pandemic trying to get anything or any support has been harder than usual. on the e90 bmw with cic, the screen had a simple 4 pin lvds in which made sense since the carlinkit cic box also has a 4 pin lvds patch cable. then issues lies here, on cic high, my car's headunit runs cic software. uses cic combox and telematics. and it even uses the kcan1 cic controler, and the lvds on the headunit has a cic 4 pin out with an additional 2 pin out meanwhile on nbt there is a single 6 pin out on the headunit and a 4 pin in on the monitor. so in theory the cic box i currently have should work with my car, but no. it leaves me on no signal, although idrive has no issues passing through the screen, meaning that the carplay box is having issues displaying its own system but no issues just passing through idrive. So in theory an nbt carplay box should work with the car as I can simply connect the box directly to the monitor and use the 6 pin lvds coming from the headunits cable to the box. the issue is that the nbt box connects to the vehicles quadlock connector, not the idrive controller like my current system, potentialy creating an issue with compatability. that i do not know. I am hoping there is some sort of mod or change i can make to my cic box to work with my car since i don't want to spend an additional 500$ to answer the "if it works" question quite yet. this would be simple if we had a e90 cic system or a newer f30 nbt system, but cic-high is a different beast. I wish i had a definitive answer to give you, but at the moment I am just going to wait until I get my hands on an NBT box, and I don't know how soon that will be.

but yes, if you have a my 2014, and you have the nbt interface, you definitively have an nbt box. That should be far more straight forward.

I have a early 2012 F30 328I which has CIC high with the 6 pin ldvs (NBT Screen) & combox. This is definitely CIC interface not NBT!

I purchased the Andream carplay unit (EW-BMCP-NBT01A) from Aliexpress, the seller was 'Android car stereo Store' they answered all my questions very quickly, Andream store just said No it doesn't work on CIC..

The carplay unit works well but they had to send me a new power cable with aux output, the original cable provided no sound when switching to aux.
the aux is now connected directly to the centre arm rest.

I work in the automotive industry, and I know that change management for updates and modifications are very difficult. It is not like draw a line in the sand. My car is model 2014, but being built in December/2013, in a remote plant in South Africa could be in that "grey" area. I'm supposed to be NBT, but the picture of my display is clearly a CIC unit. People must understand that cars being built in multiple locations and huge volumes are always difficult to properly consume stock of old models components. BMW would not discard CIC systems and displays if it is very similar to NBT. So we are where we are. Nobody really knows what are our systems.

Ok I seem to have this all figured out. I am about to purchase an andream box as well from aliexpress. I don't want to have to wait an additional month in case the AUX audio input doesn't work, makes sense too since cic and nbt have different wiring for the aux input. Should I request that the unit they send me has a separate aux power cable to begin with? I think that is smart... also does the steering wheel inputs, Mic... etc work? Thank you all so much for the help through this process and I hope this thread will prove to be a valuable resource to anyone looking to do the carplay retrofit on CIC-HIGH equipped bmws!!!

This seller has the option specifically for CIC with the 8.8 inch screen, which is CIC-HIGH. Should work with our 2012 builds

it is to my understanding that the E90 series bmw's were also equipped with the option to have a larger 8.8 nav screen, explaining my theory, of that being the true CIC these units were intended to be used for. I purchased a CIC unit, (i still have it too) and there is a dip switch for 8.8 inch screens, nothing. no signal no matter what. so at this point I am not going to bother with anything CIC on my bmw. I have heard from people who had success with NBT units on our cars, so my issue is making sure I get one with independent aux since the pin out of aux is different on the nbt quad lock.

What's your opinion of adding the Injen cold air intake on F30-N20? Does it increase horsepower?

The listing says it will work with build dates 11 / 2012 - 07 / 2016 3-Series F30 / F31 / F34 / F80

Mine is 07 / 2012, which is outside of this range. I saw in a previous post that yours is 05 / 2013, which is in the range. But then again, there is so much confusion and inconsistency, so who knows, maybe mine would work too??

if i learned anything with these sellers, its how painfully inaccurate the listings are, HAHA.... I highly highly doubt there is any difference between my idrive and your idrive system if we both have f30 bmws with Navigation and the combox with our CIC idrive. If this will work with my car I am sure it will work with other CIC-high, nav equipped pre nbt f30s.... question is... will it work with my car...

uhh, well this thread is for covering the idrive apple car play retrofit, I am sure there have been numerous threads on the ingen intake for the n20... though if you were looking for an opinion, I would go for a bm3 or a proper ecu tune first, yea an intake is nice, and makes more noise but if you seek horsepower that's for later on with your fbo mod list.

here is a thread on the intake with the same n20 engine;

sounds like a plan haha!, I will ask the seller to include a harness with a separate aux in case i encounter the same no audio issue as a previous post in this thread... if the seller gives me both harnesses, GREAT!, if not... wiring diagrams and a soldering iron I guess, I will order up tonight and keep y'all posted when it comes in, this round I might just succeed
