Only way is to update firmware (ie flash programming).

My car got updated at the dealer a week ago, curious to see if the picture will now show a 3 series instead!

I'm on 61.4 and the picture still did not update to a 2 series. I can confirm that X5 works and that's about it.

I need to figure out a way to get my dealer to do an update. They seem really not to like to do them. I do often get Bluetooth connections dropped or switched weirdly and they spent hours fiddling with that, but wouldn't consider doing an update.

Those plus f20 in latest software from this month I have seen images. Not sure whether additional are present.

Correct. Dealers will only update if paid for time either directly from customer or through BMW warranty by documenting fault.

You can flash an ID4 unit up to ID5 (which includes ID6_light), but the problem is that if your ID4 is one of the earlier ones, that only has 2GB of RAM, then it will suffer with the problem of random reboots.

If your unit is ID B140 or B143, then it only has 2GB, but if it is B209 or B240 it has 4GB, and can be flashed to ID5, and not suffer reboots.

Where can i check the ID from the unit? Or do I have to remove the unit?

You don't need to remove it, but you need remove the panel to look at the label on the front of the headunit. Look at the first 4 digits of the serial number, if it's B14x it's 2GB, if it's B21X it's 4GB. There should also be another number below for hardware version if it's HW:2.x it's 2GB for 4GB it should be HW:3.x

On a 2015 G11 7 series that came with iDrive 5 + touchscreen + gesture control what would be the correct setting to change to iDrive 6 UI, the id6_light or the id6_full?

Just to be curious. On a car the today leaves factory (2018)....it still has the same hardware as the 2015 G11.... and the only change is that from factory the HMI_ID_version says id6 by default instead of id5 (or whatsoever) that come on my 2015’s? Or also the the HMI_version says id6?
