And you wonder why you have scratches...

I took my car to a dealership to get the tire pressure topped off. I usually avoid this place because they scratched my rear bumper then denied it. But I figured what harm could they do putting air in the tires? I then watched as one of the attendants tried to drive my car between the 5 Series and X5 in the pic. Maybe it would've fit but who knows? Why chance damaging two customers' BMWs? Customers drive their cars into the bay - if someone pulls in an inch or two to the left or right, then boom - scratch city. And what are the odds that the teenager pulling cars around is really going to fess up that he scratched someone's car? I didn't let him drive it through. He said he understood but that they do it all the time. Yep, my scratched bumper is evidence that they "do it all the time." Buyer beware, indeed.

Why? Free nitrogen isn't worth it.

I never understand the dealer bashing stories where it's someone's like 2nd-4th problem with that dealer, and they are coming here to complain about it. Don't you learn after the 2nd time that it's probably not a good idea, or maybe go to a different dealer? Or don't go to dealerships at all like most people and find a good indy shop that actually cares about the work they do.

FYI - Air is free at most gas stations AND you don't even have to watch careless teenagers drive your car around to fill up the tire.

Paying for air? I can't even wrap my head around that. Here every gas station have air and it's free.

Don't use gas station air. Typically get water in the lines. Just carry a portable compressor in the trunk. I have that, a gauge, and a slime kit

Geez, didn't know this even got posted since it's showing as draft. Is the picture even attached? I was there for air. The 5 Series that would've also been scratched may have been there for a more worthy purpose.

And yes, I go to a dealership for air when the seasons change and I'm in the area. For years, I had no problems putting air in the tires of my 4Runner. However, I've ended up with less air in the tires of the BMW than more when I've used the gas station compressors in my neighborhood (and no they're not free, but that's not the point). Since the air hose is in the drop-off bay at this particular dealership, I didn't expect them to need to drive the car at all. Though it's the closet dealership to me, I drive 15 miles past it to the dealership I do use. I haven't taken my car to this one in over two years. But thanks for the all input.

Buy your own air compressor and fill your own air.

Okay, fine. You guys were right. I got the compressor and it took seconds to adjust a tire.

I have yet to find one gas station that provides air for free. In fact, I have never seen a gas station provide free air since I was 15 years old. The average price is $1.50 for 4 minutes - and that is the only price - nothing less than that in each machine.

Some states, like California, have laws requiring free air. Even if they charge you should be able to just have them turn it on for free

I have a portable air pump that plugs into the cigarette lighter plug for this purpose no point in paying for free air.
