Vehicle tax (VED) on a personal lease

Looking at a personal lease on the Select Car Leasing site, the cars I have viewed state ‘Road Tax: Included’

I assume that is the VED on first registration - in other words the first year is included in the lease figure. Is that correct, or on a 36 month deal, do they include all of the VED over the lease term?

VED is included for for the term of the lease, you just get a letter telling you it’s taxed again every year.

I would like to check a few things before committing, but will post more within a day or two. I haven’t financed a car before, so trying to make sure I understand it properly.

Thirded.

He's either buying a french car and is too ashamed to admit it, or more likely something fabulous and he's worried he won't be able to back out of it if he tells us

Another lease question - do most insurers treat lease cars (where presumably the registered keeper is different from the owner) in the same way as owned cars, or is there some kind of loading? I’m currently with Aviva in case that makes a difference.

Can be a loading yes but generally very small. They may also remove the ability to drive other cars not owned by you if your policy has that.

I always had grief with insurance - if you do it on-line there is usually in the declaration section words to the effect that you're the owner and / or registered keeper, but you're neither and so the on-line falls down. Then you have to phone up and it just seems more difficult than it should be.

The comparison sites have it listed in their drop down menu.

Well that's good, they've obviously moved on. The last car I leased, through VW Finance, supposedly came with 7 days free insurance to keep you covered during the hand-over phase. When I tried to activate it, through VW's own insurance, they refused cover because I didn't own the car...

All good guesses - I could have gone for any of those, apart from the Audi!!

I'm looking at a new F90 M5 (not Competition) built to order, with just a few options (about £2k) on a 9+35 lease deal, 10k miles a year. The price seems to work out at about £608 pm. In other words a total cost of £26,750 for the 3 years.

Any views on this deal?
