Before i bought my F30, i wanted a B8.5 S4 bad. Unfortunately, they didn't want me as much because i couldn't find one in my price range. I wasn't even considering the 340 which i ended up getting, always thought it would have been out my price range. Was cross shopping the S4 and 335 pre-lci. Ended up with a 340.

Hadn't I bought a 340ix in 2015, I would have bought a Golf R. Sold the 340 a year ago and bought a ... Golf R. Don't miss the (lack of) steering feel, but it was a great car otherwise.

If I didn't have my F30 I'd probably be driving a Jeep Wrangler. Also curious what the new Bronco brings to the table.

What car would you drive if you didn't have an F30?
When I bought my 340 I was looking for a 4 door sedan to replace my totaled e46 330, so Audi and Mercedes where also in the picture. So even an M340 or larger M550 look nice.
But part of me would like to go back to my early days when I owned a fox body Mustang 5.0 GT manual, so there is the impractical appeal of Mustang V8 now. But from a practical side there are lot of Audi, Mercedes and BMW in the 5 series size that would work or maybe SUV x5 range - an M car??? We just bought a family Chrysler van (need to haul lots of kids), so anything for me that is not the van is a good thing. |

I won't live without the utility of a hatchback, wagon, or SUV. But I won't have a vehicle that is not fun-to-drive. Hence my 440i GC. My last shopping list included the hatchback A5/S5 Sportback, and (don't scoff until you test drive one) the Kia Stinger GT2. Now I would also include the X3 M40i. I'm not a Porsche guy, otherwise the Macan and the Panamera would also make the list. My brother has a Panamera and says it is the best all-around car he's ever had, which is high praise from him.

A 2016 F150 FX4 or a first/second gen Raptor. Before graduating and having to commute 22 miles, one way, for work I always drove SUV's and trucks. Ended up getting a 09 e92 328 xdrive for that commute and it converted me to the BMW life
I still miss being able to throw anything and everything in the bed, but I can thankfully borrow my Dads truck if I need it. |

I'm in my 3rd BMW and love my 340i, will probably move to a M340i in the future. But if I was looking outside BMW I'd look at an '17-18 Audi S4.

Before getting the F30, I was looking at the S4 (couldn't find the year I wanted in my price range aka the facelifted years). Looking back now, while I'd have loved the power the S4 offered, overall glad I got the F30.

At the time I bought my 435 I was looking at S3's, pre-Competition M2's, and RWD M240i's.
I had to do it over, I probably would have stuck to my search for an M2 and just waited for the prices to come down a bit more. The Mk6 GTI I was driving at the time was doing just fine.

I cross shopped this 335 with the B8.5 S4 but they were a little over what I wanted to spend at the time. In retrospect I was focused too much on the payment, but I don't regret a BMW. I wanted to try something new.
Other options I was looking at 4dr ~300hp awd (not many in that space S4, ATI), or listen to my heart and go 2dr coupe. That meant Frs/BRZ, 987 cayman, well used 996/997 911, e9x/e46/e36 M3.

The F30 340i is just as quick if not quicker than the S4 in many situations.

Those still haunt my dreams. I'm afraid I'll drive one and get seriously hooked.
Even after the local Alfa dealership went out of business...
