I think some of you are missing that this is a B58 question. So not sure about the N55 but the Dinan intake for our cars works great.

I did...
I was asking if you quantified it, have datalogs, etc. I am not necessarily arguing with the statement since i have always generally opposed the "hot air intakes" but i would like to understand the basis of the statement. |

Plenty of people running into issues if you search around. It's the same reason Pure ran the stock intake on their shop car.

And plenty of people don't have issues - is it related to it being an OPEN intake vs just an inproperly designed MAF housing?

My intake then has a tube to pull air from the grill as per the "hot climate package". |

Assuming you're talking B58... the lower is unfiltered.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=13_1795 realoem doesn't differentiate between hot weather package for 11 Unfiltered air snorkel, it shows the piece for all B58s Does yours have a #13 and not a #14 maybe? |

That's right. My cold climate package is missing #14 and #15 and is therefore not connected to the front bumper.
Wish there was a DIY manual or ideally a video about retrofitting those. Not sure I want to blindly disassemble around.

If you still question my my awareness, feel free to look through my IAT thread. Btw, I recommend doing more than single gear pulls to get any real answers from your testing. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1717248 |

I do more than single gear pulls as well. When i was testing race IC vs 5'' stepped, i did multi gear pulls including a 0-150 mph pull. I know a single gear pull isnt enough to really test an IC, IAT control, or similar, where you need more than a few seconds of WOT. |

Why?
I just removed a BMS from my car only because the sound became tiresome. PHWEEEEEEeeeeee PEWWWF with every fucking shift. Sounds like someone with really bad allergies. I only want to hear the engine and exhaust, not a compressor.

I for one have never understood the "sound" which everyone is after with these intakes. Never appealed to me.
But have stopped trying to understand it as well, whatever rocks your boat.

Note this thread is about B58 but it looks like you have a N55, for the N55 the BMS is one of the most common intakes to throw a CEL, cause rough idle, etc, mostly due to design around the MAF.

I read your lengthly comparison of intakes, and that plus the incessant whine had me put the MPPK intake back in. Happy now.
