Road Debris Killed Wheel and Tire Today

Could not avoid hitting an object at 75 mph near dark this evening. It was rust brown about 150 mm diameter x 75mm tall. Hit it hard. Got car towed to the tire shop where I bought the Michelin AS3+ tires on the car. Wheels are 442m orbit gray and the tire failed by being rim cut and the rim had a rash adjacent to the tire puncture site. Got a feeling the rim is big time out of round.

I knowingly opted for no insurance. Money not so much an issue as not getting screwed too badly should the wheel not be repairable. Question: 442m orbit gray is a relatively low sales volume option. Any recommendations besides a BMW dealer to buy a single new or used 442m staggered rear wheel?

Sorry to read about your incident - glad you're OK. Check the classifieds here, bimmerforum & bimmerfest. EBay might be another option.

As you're in NC, check with Prince Wheel Services - they do excellent work & can tell you if the wheel can be repaired: http://www.princewheelservices.com/

I've had good service from Wheel Collision Center in PA, refinishing a set of my wheels & buying their refinished ones: http://www.wheelcollision.com/store/...-435I-440I.htm

Good luck!

Check eBay but read description carefully and ask questions.

Happy ending! The wheel was repaired at RGX Rim Repair in Greensboro, NC. and looks new. I did learn how some wheels appear to repairable and cannot be repaired because of bent wheel hub. The wheel repair machines can do wonders for wheel circumference out-of-round issues but there's not much can be done for fixing a bent wheel hub. Fortunately, my wheel was out-of-round and had rim damage, both repaired successfully.

A shout out to the Quest Towing Services, a national service for quickly arranging a tow using qualified local towing companies. The roll-back truck picked up my car within 60 minutes of my placing the call.

The tire was free to me as I had bought tire insurance coverage from the tire installer store.

Towing, rim repair and incidental charges totaled to $408. I'm happy because it could have easily been more than twice that amount. The other good news was no other damage to the car's underside components.

That is some nice news to and a not-so-happy story!
