Hello,

I recently purchased a f30 328I Sportline without reverse camera.

After doing some research i found a company that has a retrofit for $199. A bit skeptical but i gave it a go, as i have extremely tinted windows and could not see behind me.


This is the kit:




The kit took me about 3 hours to install, and i have to say, i am extrwemly happy.

it comes with a reverse camera that clicks in by the hood latch, looks OEM as heck!



UPDATE: Video of how the rear view camera works in daylight.

The reverse camera works with the stock idrive, and also has dynamic parking lines when you move steering wheel.

****BEFORE YOU BUYN READ THIS****


You have to select which version you have: CIC, NBT or EVO.

**IF YOU HAVE CIC YOU WILL HAVE TO MANUALLY CHECK THE PINS TO SE IF ITS A 4PIN OR 6 PIN CONNECTOR.**

Go on your main menu, and compare the red highlight, one is more red, the other is more orange. Both EVO version apply to just evo.



For example, my car has a 6.5 inch screen and i had the NBT menu. so i chose the following:



This is important, as the connector for the screen is different.

Yes. The guide lines can be moved pretty easily.

-Put the car in reverse
-hold down iDrive knob
-turn knob to move the lines closer/further away from car
-push and hold knob left to right to move lines from one side to the other

If your car is Manual transmission, then this product is NOT compatible with your car.

So your rear view mirror is virtually useless? Doesn’t sound very safe to me. Did you buy the car knowing you couldn’t see? Or did you do it?

OP states windows are extremely tinted and can’t see behind him. That’s the reason for the camera. Read the OP’s post.

I purchased my vehicle during the day, and i knew the rear was tinted, but didnt know it was going to affect me this much at night.

The reverse camera has since them helped me out a lot.

Rear view mirror is not useless all the time, just in extremely dark locations.

Great find! I've been wanting the Bimmertech retrofit kit, but it was price prohibitive. Did install require any coding?

If you do a little research, you'll see that BMW actually didn't make backup cameras standard until 2018, because that's when a federal mandate that all new cars MUST have a backup camera went into effect. Until then, it was optional.

Our 2014 328i w/ M-Sport Package didn't come with one. We bought it used, I think it is the only thing our car doesn't have.

Thanks, man. Would totally appreciate a tutorial. I just ordered with the code "free-shipping" for $20 off. Likely install next weekend if it arrives on time. I'm interested in running the video cable from the deck to the head unit. Seems like that's where most of the heavily lifting will be.

It was part of the drivers assistant package on my 16.

No coding required, it was all plug and play. No error codes and it looks exactly like the retrofit from bimmertech or OEM, even the dynamic lines work the same.

Yes. You need to see if yours in 4 or 6 pin CIC.
