Anyone have the specific 550 clutch folks are using for the upgrade?

Hey yall

There is a growing opinion my 6MT is starting to slip, and if so I want to upgrade the clutch, while ugly crying I have to do it.

Does anyone have the specific kit/part number for the 550 model to use?

Thanks

I set my car to a 2013 335is, and this shows as fitting 335i, is, 550i, and 650i so I'm 99% sure this is the clutch you want. it's probably the same as the other person posted, but I would buy from fcpeuro as they give you a lifetime warranty+replacement even on wear items. in 20k miles if it starts slipping again, send it back and get a brand new one, especially running more power than stock with your tune and if you plan on going PS2.

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...mw-21207603248

edit: it IS the same exact part# as previously posted, just a different seller, so it's the right one.

I believe F30 335i is the third one down on the "will fit" list

This is the one I purchased, I had no fitment issues everything bolted up perfectly

Sadly my temporary reprieve looks just that.. temporary. Back to thinking my clutch is slipping under high load.

To confirm this clutch works with an F32 435? Just want to make sure there isn't a F30/32 difference here.

Hey, just wanted to ask what makes you think your clutch is slipping? Because some think their clutch is slipping, but it is actually just the CDV. And, the CDV is really easy to delete on the F30's. There are a few write ups on here and on the M2 forum, BUT if you need any help i can help out also! Also, yes that is the correct clutch for your car if you do end up needing one, and it should hold power for the PS2.

Thank you.. I really appreciate this info. I have an entire thread going on what is some odd behavior in my car (below) but can give the elevator speech version.

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1672526

Short version is: Under full WOT, regardless of gear, I get this odd kick behavior about 80% of the time. The logs show the "torque limiter" kicks in, which I am told I dont even HAVE on an 6MT. I have been chasing this for almost a year with my tuner, changing tunes, hardware, you name it.

I THOUGHT the dragon was finally slain yesterday morning (with new tune and change back to stock TMAP) with 15!!!!! successful WOT quick pulls, which hasnt happened in a year. I was beside myself happy, and really thought I was done.

Yesterday afternoon driving around though, I had 4 for 4 failures, with the kick coming back just as strong as ever. I wanted to scream. The ONLY difference I can call out, is the car was just driven (about 5min run time) in the morning on the pulls, when in the afternoon it was about 30min or so, so potentially transmission/clutch was warmer?

Last dyno, car is 419rwp 425torque, and the growing opinion I am getting is the clutch is slipping under WOT high torque values. It feels absolutely normal shifting, normal driving, and the behavior only happens on sharp WOT pulls. I am talking with everyone I can.. here, my master mechanic buddy, and will get time to take the car to my trusted shop here asap for their eval as well.

I would love to chat about the CDV as well, as I hear all about changing them, but also heard its internal now on these models??

from user "Tchao" in another thread (post#1/page2)

6MT clutch and flywheel Upgrade? https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1406927

"Like I said....if it's not slipping in 4th when you are WOT, its not your clutch, its our stupid CDV.
Shift to 4th, cruise at 2k, then WOT it. At peak torque around 3k-4k and youre not slipping its not the clutch."

maybe give that a little test next time you're driving?

Ok.. 7 pulls this morning, trying to replicate what happened yesterday morning where I had 15 without any issues in a row.

I didnt FEEL any limiter kick in on all 7, though I see in the 5th log (which was 2nd gear and I got sideways) there is a brief limiter kick in. I didnt feel that one, but the rest felt great and strong, no kick, no issues. I also added a bunch of PIDs to MHD to log, but apparently they weren't saved for the runs which is irritating.

5th run is the middle log of this set.

Did you change the flywheel as well? Did you stay with the model stock unit, or a different (550?) one there?

Yeah, like the guy said above, if you do a pull in like 4th gear from like 3k rpms in a 6MT and it still slips, that means that it is your clutch. If it doesn't slip in 4th but it does in the other gears, then it is definitely your CDV. Also, I will always advocate for a CDV delete. Ever since i did it, i feel a night and day difference honestly. The clutch pedal is way more consistent and it catches as soon as you release, even under WOT. Also, yeah, our CDV is sort of internal, but it is still easy to do as long as you have some basic tools and a jack!

Well if I have to replace the clutch I will have the CDV delete done for sure. What I honestly cant tell is if what I am experiencing is clutch slip or not.

Beyond frustrated honestly.

I switched to a SMFW from Spec. The oem flywheel was the same price as the upgrade so i just saved myself a headache and switched. Plus I'm pushing over 600whp now so its kind of necessary to prevent false misfires.
