VRSF N55 Downpipe

Looking to upgrade my downpipe on my 435i and have read much through the forum of people applauding the VRSF branding, is it the "Catless race DP" or "High Flow Catted DP'? Thanks for any feedback!

Hi OP.

I'm looking to do the EXACT same thing, and looks like you beat me to the thread by a couple hours haha

Is this the pipe you're considering?:
https://www.vr-speed.com/vrsf-cerami...2-f33-f88.html

$249 looks like a steal for a catted DP. Am I looking at the right pipe?

I vouch for the Catless I have stock exhaust and it defy brought out a little more tone and a little bit more throttle response.

The smell- not that bad. I only smell it if I stand behind my car at the exhaust tips, red lights and stuff I don't smell a thing.

CEL- tune takes it away, I am not tuned and the lights been on for two years no problems. (Tuning this month actually finally )

With stock exhaust you get some good burbles and pops with downshifts and stuff,
Only issue is emissions. I live in Florida so didn't need to worry.

Think that's about it

Just want to note that catless smell is highly subjective. Some people like it, some tolerate it, some hate it. If you have kids or drive family, coworkers, etc, i would recommend against it. Yes, it is the cheapest bang-for-the-buck but its definitely a noticable smell. I daily drove a catless car for 7 years so i know exactly what it is like.

Completely agree, I just ended up switching from catless to a Wagner catted dp. My wife and kids were always complaining about the smell. Performance difference is not noticeable, at least on the stock turbo.

Thanks to Mike for the nice sale price

Mike,

I'm in the market for the 4" VRSF catless but it might be just after the New Year. Can I expect this price to hold?

false premise.

Youre car will smell fine, sound better and have a higher achievable level of power.

false premise.

Not to argue, but the smell is subjective, the sound is subjective, and the higher achievable level of power does not really apply to a stock turbo FBO car. A good catted DP will make basically the same power as catless, certainly within how the margin of how much your butt dyno can feel.

I somewhat agree that the car won't smell like a car from the 80s because the fuel control is much more precise, so it's not like a old carbureted car. However, i think the point here is that the car will certainly smell more like fuel and fumes than the stock car, so it's something to be aware of when weighing options (especially with kids/family etc as i mentioned above). For the sound, yeah most will agree the change in volume and tone is nice, but there are also those that don't like the rasp of being catless, especially paired with some aftermarket exhausts.

So my advice for OP or those in the market for a DP - do your research. If you are on the fence then a cheap catless like VRSF on sale may the worth the $250 experiment to see if you want to deal with the smell and like the sound. If not, get a catted, or just get the catted from the get-go. I just installed my fabspeed catted over the weekend and yes it is expensive but I have no regrets.

Imagine how a catless would be for you then

FWIW my fabspeed has zero smell. Infact cold starts seem to be even less smell than stock; perhaps it reaches its efficient operating temp quicker since it uses a different type of catalyst.

I rode a few different sport bikes up to 2006. The last one was a jetted and pipe and the sound and smell were visceral. Any time I hear or smell a sport bike it brings back fond memories.

I previously owned a Acura TL and a Infiniti G37. I swapped out the cats on both cars for straight pipes. Both smelled horrible and I ended up going back to stock.

With the BMW I knew right away I was not going to go catless from previous experience. I am very satisfied with my VRSF catted downpipe. I don't notice a smell and it is only slightly louder than stock.
