Haha finally I can reach the rear seats latch with 1 metal stick (about 1 meter long). Trunk opened and will retrofit a way to fold down the seat from inside cabin.

I've wondered what I would do if my battery died and I couldn't open the trunk, where I hide my jumper cables in the bottom tray!! A stick with a hook on the end to pull the manual release from inside the back seat would certainly come in handy!! But where would I hide that stick you ask? In the trunk, that I can't open without any power, because I can't jump start it, because the jumper cables are stuck in the bottom of trunk!!!

How did we get sidetracked??

First of all, thank you BimmerTech for make it possible.

Now, the installation process was almost straight forward, same a little short ground wire for unit, but I adjust unit position and everything is OK, little clamp for rear grip of the electrical piston was to short, so that little corner didn't stay in mention position, but it was locked inside the hole and screw was tightened firmly, so no problem. Another little problem was with button template, witch it was a little thin that is should be, even I used latest PDF template, I had to adjust the hole and everything was OK. Button looks good.
After installation finished, I had to manually close the trunk and after that power trunk was working. Also I saw the problem with battery, and I can confirm that if battery is not OK, power trunk wan't function perfectly. I stayed for some time with car open and radio on, and after that , soft close from trunk didn't work, trunk was not closed complete, but after I start the car and battery was charged again, everything was working again perfect.
For the moment I'm very pleased with this retrofit, hope to not have problems with it.
I wanted to ask BimmerTech experts if there is any solution to install front button too, for trunk, so the retrofit will be complete and will look more as from factory.
I also post an video with PowerTrunk tests, after all installed.

So after installing my kit last week Saturday, it stopped working on Thursday. The lock will not unlock and have had to open the boot using the emergency release from inside the boot.I re-installed the original latch and this works as normal.Have been in contact with Bimmertech support and they have asked me to go through various tests and checks and still no luck. The retrofitted Latch will just not unlock , it locks fine with the soft close feature but once locked it won't unlock using the boot release in the car on the boot handle or the remote.Have also had to do a bunch of voltage checks on the latch connection in various modes the lock has been in.

just waiting for tech support to get back to me now on way forward.I hope this problem is resolved quickly.

Sorry to hear you have had the same problem that I had.Hope it comes right for you.

So I climbed into the trunk with my work light, and watched how the lid closed. I discovered a "wear spot" on the car body at the same location that the corner of the bracket touches it. I removed the bracket, and discovered a wear spot on the corner as well!

So I filed down the corner to make sure that the bracket does not get blocked by the car body, and while I was at it, I also filed the hole for the bolt to be 1-2mm wider so that inserting the bolt through the bracket assembly is not as difficult. Now the trunk lid closed PERFECTLY!!! YAY!

Attachment 1582068
Attachment 1582069

While I had the wiring exposed, I made a ground wire extension out of some 14 AWG wire for the one very short ground lead. I cut off the ring terminal, stripped the two wires (one was 16 AWG, and the other was 18 AWG), twisted them together, and crimped it onto my extension wire. I found 16-18 inches additional length to be just about right. Use the blue connector for this connection.
Attachment 1582070

Finally, the F130 power lead had a blue connector that easily comes off! This is because the blue connectors are only for 14 or 16 AWG wire. The power lead is probably an 18 or 20 AWG wire, so since the red connectors are designed for 16-22 AWG wire, I replaced the blue with red connector, and now I had a snug fit.

I reinstalled all the trunk trim, though through the process I did mangle some of the expanding rivets/plugs to the point I couldn't reuse them. I went to my local BMW dealer, and got a few spare ones:
Big expanding plug part #51471911992
Small expanding rivet part #07149193301kt

I gotta say that I'm really loving this retrofit. When I go to client sites, I'm usually lugging a lot of gear that I load up in the trunk. This retrofit makes the process a bit easier, especially when my hands are full carrying stuff. Works great with my comfort access feature!
Arthur's were you having the closing problem all the time or only sometimes, as I'm having a similar problem where the boot will not soft close at times , but most of the time it's fine.

There was enough of an obstruction that it would not soft close by itself *every* time. Once I filed down the corner of the bracket, it has worked flawlessly ever since. 15 minutes of work with a file fixed the problem.

It could be that in your situation, the obstruction is only slight enough that sometimes it works, other times it doesn't work. I would advise you to crawl inside your trunk from the back seat with a worklight and look carefully to see if that is the case with your car. Just don't stick your fingers in a place where they might get pinched when the trunk is closing!

Thank You Bimmertech

Update 2: So after a weeks of using the car the second lock unit has also failed. This time round i had a real problem as the emergency release also failed to unlatch the lock and i had one heck of a time to finally get the lock Unlatched.Looks like there is something that is not right with my kit that is causing the lock to fail. I have juts decided to remove the whole kit and put the car back to stock.

speed608 - that is unfortunate news. I contacted you via the support line to get this resolved - I'm very sorry this happened.

We care about the quality of our products and more importantly about the experience our customers have installing and using our kits. Among all of the F30 Power Trunk kits we have sold so far (and there was quite a few delivered to customers) there have been a 3 or 4 instances where the locks have failed.

It's paramount for us to first replace these locks and secondly to get the faulty units back to our offices for an investigation. We'll do our best to apply improvements as necessary in order to prevent this from happening altogether.

Thanks Maciej,

Yes it is very unfortunate as I really liked this auto boot open/close feature and it's disappointing that my kit has had some sort of a fault.

I have replied to your mail as per instructed and I hope you get to the bottom of these failures .

Thanks

Hi Maciej,

I just emailed you. My lock seems to have failed this morning. The boot will not unlatch.
Worst part is I don't know how I will get to it, my car does not have the emergency cable release.

Seems that cars sold in Australia don't have the emergency release installed. As soon as someone reported a lock failure, I realised that I needed to install one just in case my lock failed so I ordered one and fitted it. From looking at the online parts catalogue, there were two options so I went ahead and ordered the cheaper of the two which was a single part number. The one I obtained was a simple cord with a loop at the end while the flash one was a cable, separate handle, etc., with various part numbers.

Sorry I don't but the install just involves removing the new lock and connecting the release cord as per the video and feeding the cord through the slot in the boot lining assuming you go for the cheaper option with the single part number.

Yes the cap referred to is the one corresponding to the F01, see picture, that of the series 3 does not go on the lock of the retrofit.

The lock of the bimmertech retrofit is that of the F01 série 7
