brake pop when reversing
There is a popping noise when I press the brake while in reverse. It's usually only one, noticeable noise coming from the front of the car (update: I think it's the rear). Only in Reverse and not in forward. Spoke with my SA and he says this is normal. Do I need to worry about this or is this normal?

I'd be concerned. It probably indicates some wear or loosening. Most of your braking, and all of your breaking at speed, stresses the brake parts in one direction, so they'll wear/loosen accordingly. Braking in reverse could cause the parts to shift, causing the pop noise, whereas going forward again they just settle back to what's for them become normal.

Isn't this something about something moving within the caliper when you do the initial slide back in reverse?
Funny I hear this on my buddy Igor's car last night when he backed up. Not you Igor_1080, other Igor, lol. EDIT: yay tagging isn't working again, so stupid.

It's normal. I can't describe the mechanism in detail from memory, but I do recall that there is a built-in "self-adjustment" of the handbrake that occurs when using the brakes in reverse. The noise, I think, is something like the slack being taken up. I could be wrong but I think every car makes a similar noise braking in reverse.

Normally have my radio on when I am driving though, unless it was a decent sound I wouldn't hear it.

M Sport brakes? I haven't heard it with mine *yet*, but it's been completely normal on my other cars equipped with 4 piston brembo calipers.

I have m-sport package, but not the m-sport brakes. Are the 4 piston brembo calipers regular non m-sport brakes? And when you say "completely normal," do you mean you do not hear the noise?

I have had the M performance brakes about a month and I have heard them pop a few times. I was beginning to wonder myself if there was an issue.

When I said "completely normal", I meant that hearing the popping noise is "completely normal". The pads are slightly shifting on the retaining pins inside the calipers (brembo 4 piston calipers).

recently changed my brakes on the brembo 4 piston calipers, I am having the same issue, I was wondering if this has anything to do with the caliper springs/clip (did i install it upside down lol)
Should we grease the retaining pins? |

Pad-shifting mechanics - completely normal. Here is what's happening p.s. using Brembo M-Brakes [THP+M Sport] - get the same sound every time [initial application though] brakes get applied after reverse. |
