Jalopnik article on improving BMW quality.

An interesting read. Here's a particularly amusing paragraph:

"When you buy a BMW, any BMW, you are pretty much enlisting a willingness to invest in the vehicle. Long story short, BMW's have a love for premium parts and premium care. Your tires? Don't even think about buying the cheapies. Maintenance? While any brand will bite you for neglect, a BMW will turn you upside down, spit in your face, and then piledrive you right into your crippled savings account."

I think that article was/is pretty biassed. I'm not saying BMW's are more reliable than say a ToYo product, but I think a BMW is more reliable than say an Audi or MB product for sure!!

Owning a modern BMW is like owning a boat; it takes constant attention and maintenance to keep it performing at a high level. I have both an E30 and an E60, and the E60 most definitely consumes most of my time and money.

I think I may have one more BMW purchase in me (CPO 128i), and then I'm going to go electric, hopefully with Tesla. I have zero confidence in BMWs ability to build a new car I can rely on for the next 10 years, which is very unfortunate as I love the brand.

Is Jalopnik suggesting that buying cheap tires on any other car is acceptable but with a BMW it'll cause issues?

Since your tires are the only part of the car that comes in contact with the ground, you shouldn't buy cheap tires period.

Another stupid Jalopnik article where they eco that most cars are garbage except cheap Miatas.

You have to take every Jalopnik article with a grain of salt. The only reason my last BMW has issues was that it has an N54 engine. Other than that, the car was bullet proof. This is why I am not worried about my current car(s) with the N55 that has been proven.

MB has actually gotten significantly better, I would venture to say even better than BMW at the moment... Audi / VW is awful across the board.

My dad had a nightmare 7 series plagued with electrical failures and ended up trading it in for an E350 after losing significantly on the former. He was a decades-long BMW fan prior to the poorly-handled fiasco. He never went back after the bad experience but misses BMW handling for sure.

my E36/7 Z3 M has been insanely reliable. 80k+ on the original clutch and brakes despite the increased power. Even the stock headgasket lasted at 12+psi without going pop when I replaced it a few thousand miles ago. Once you overhaul the plastic of the cooling system, not much to worry about. My car came with a reinforced rear subframe, another thing that can be an issue.
