I've tried re-coding multiple times without success, but after swapping wheels. I've also noted in Vehicle Info \ Check Control menu there are two entries after I start a reset. One for a FTM reset and another for TPM reset. FTM reset clears pretty quickly while the TPM reset remains until the TPMS malfunction for missing sensors appears after 15 minutes or so. |

This now sounds like it only works for Euro cars and there is no provision to switch back to the FTM on US/CAN cars.
It sounds like there is a whole different set of coding compared to EU cars. The old FTM does reset quickly but for some reason the TMPS reset (moving reset as opposed to stationary for FTM) is still active.

SOLVED!
Ok! So I almost gave up on this project and thought I'd look at the Fuses in the boot. Scanning through the Fuse card I found #132, I then decided to pull the fuse and run my tests again.
With the car coded to FTM, the TPMS malfunction code instantly disappeared when I started up the car. Next I performed a FTM reset and within seconds of driving all 4 wheels went green!! It now appears FTM is fully functional even after a 30 min drive. As you might have read from my previous posts, the reset would have failed with the TPMS malfunction message by now. I may lower the tire pressure on one of the shoes to validate this is fully functional, but I'm a happy camper Thanks for your help stu14t |

Sounds like you've solved the issue for US / CAN cars, Fantastic!
I will update my How to PDF and repost again. Thanks for your efforts on this

Hi,
Just wanted to say thanks for those who figured this out and to stu for writing the guide. I'll also be using it when the winter wheels go on. I'm using non-RF tyres, and it wasn't just the cost of buying the sensors that bothered me, it was also the thought of having to ruin one of them by injecting tyre sealant. |

My car just warns me at startup and I click ok and the light is on in the dash. That's it. Why code it out?

As I understand it, if the car is coded for TPMS but the sensors aren't there, it won't do any flat tyre monitoring. If you code out TPMS, the car falls back onto the wheel rotation method of monitoring and will warn you of a flat, so long as you don't have runflats fitted. Runflats don't actually go flat, so you rely on the TPMS to give a visual indication when they're deflated. That's why you should never code out or fail to fit sensors with runflats. |

The difference is that you can drive further. My old E90 had the old TPMS without sensors and runflat tires. It also worked great. My F30 also didn't have the 2VB as standard. So i think it's no problem to code it out. |

To be honest I would put up with the little triangle too if that was all you got.
Trouble is, we are governed by European Union nanny laws that make sure you know about it every 20 or so minutes. Same bunch of idiots that thought about banning children under 8 years old blowing up balloons.

I honestly thought runflats didn't go down and therefore couldn't be detected by wheel rotation. I guess the sensors are just there for an early warning, or for people too stupid/lazy to check their tyre pressures. You know you're being patronized by the manufacturer when they start lying about the existence of a dipstick! |

You sir, are a F***ING HERO! Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I found this very helpful. Hoping it will work on my wife's F25. We'll find out. Either way, awesome investigation on your end and props to you for figuring it out.

Great info. Actually used this thread to enable TMPS on a 2018 340i that did not come with that Option from the factory. It had option 2VC rather than 2VB.
No additional HW required (other than the TPMS sensors!) I used the info the re-verse engineer the process to activate that option and the required settings to swap from RFA to RDC. Works just fine! |

SunzOut did you also code in the option 2VB somewhere via E-sys or was it just sufficient to reverse the order given above and inactivate RPA and activate RPC?
I am looking in doing this myself too in short notice. Don't have the option 2VB as well, but I do have a DSC MK100 ABS pump and the right (current) TPMS sensors. Therefore I think it might work... |
