So when engine builders build, they shoot for a slightly larger clearance, this is where aftermarket bearings come into play, kings from what I see achieves around a .002 clearance, oem is around .0015
The larger clearance can handle thicker oils and abuse, they don't last as long because built motors will need a refresh, oem bearings have proven to be just fine in these cars at 80-120k plus miles and still going, mine isn't going for any large unrealistic numbers or sustained abuse, so oem may be the best option and running quality 5w30 oil Huge debate in another group but they have found 30w is better than 40w at oiling at higher rpm and drains back to the pan marginally faster, no downsides to it but that's all subjective and a rabbit hole ha |

Let me see if I can find the thread, basically a fairly long thread in an n54 group I think it was, TLDR: was in bmw application, bmw brand oil was the "best" 30w having better flow especially at high rpm
Marginally faster drainage and cooling with 30w was determined among the forum scientists lol I think the most popular oils were "tested" I'll have to find it, it's been a minute I was searching for clearances and oil weights in these engines and n54 has more info, and they run the same bearings and journals and that's how I found it Give me an hour or so and I'll try to find Still looking, can't remember what I searched exactly to find it, it was interesting to say the least |

It's recommended to measure and machine the big end if necessary when doing arp, the few people who have said "it's fine" It's not worth a 5k stump. |

Ladies and gentlemen the mmr baffle arrived super fast
Just got it today Ordered on Monday the 7th, got Saturday the 12th if anyone ends up searching this later it'll be nice to see ship times, very well packaged and really nicely engineered. Note: one thing I didn't realize was the "windows" have nitrile rubber flaps, they seem very nice and well made, and are made to handle high oil temps, however time will tell. I won't know, unless a piece breaks off and ends up clogging my pickup, then you get a surprise race engine build lol. |

So I would love to do a sanity check. These are the parts I ordered, let me know if i missed anything
12 x Rod Bolts - BMW-11247589671 Oil pan Bolt Set - CRP-HWK0003 3 x King Rod Bearings (ship in pairs) - KEB-CR222SV Oil pan Gasket - BMW-11137600482 Pick up tube gasket - BMW-11417527092 Redline Assembly Lube Tow Hook - BMW-72157070643 MMR Performance Baffle - MMR20-0501 5w30 Synthenic Oil Green plastigauge to check clearances... I saw in another thread someone ordering oil pump bolts, not sure why? In terms of torque for the rod bolts, as im using OEM it would be 20Nm, 70 degrees, and then 70 degrees again While i have this apart ill also update the engine mounts and get a Hard Race sway bar |

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...SABEgKX3PD_BwE Everything else looks good, maybe end links for the sway bar. With the king bearings clearance you may do 5w40 because the little more clearance |
