Zeitronix ECA-2 Install question
2014 335i xdrive with dorch stage 1 hpfp, 6.5” vrsf intercooler, fbo etc
I bought this Zeitronix ECA-2 Ethanol Content Analyzer Kit w/ E% Gauge from https://www.maperformance.com/produc...SABEgJID_D_BwE It was recommended by bootmod3. I was expecting to be able to find a video or tutorial for install on the n55 motor. But instead, I can’t find anything! My research leads me to believe it needs to be spliced in to the pt-can. But I can’t find where the pt-can is, which wires to splice into, or if it is simply plug and play. I can’t find any information on this install!! I am usually able to just find a tutorial, and get the work done.. but not on this one!! Please help 😌 |

The factory settings inside the module are good for an F30/32. No internal config necessary. Every module on the powertrain can bus has 2 wires, CAN HI and CAN LO. You will need to tap the CAN HI wire of the sensor into the CAN HI wire of the ECM, and same for CAN LO. If you hook up a CAN HI to a CAN LO, you will bring the cars network down and cause a load of errors. If you have an O'scope, CAN HI will have a signal that switched from 2.5v to 3.5v, and CAN LO will have a signal that switches from 1.0-2.0v. You will not see this signal with a voltmeter. It updates thousands upon thousands of times per second.

There’s a specific Zeitronix unit to wire into CAN and I don’t believe that’s the right one. It should say CAN BUS on the top label.

I was under the impression the BM3 guys were working on a custom PCB that will stand as the method to hook up the ethanol sensor and connect into the canbus (though I haven't seen how/where they will connect into the car). The PCB isn't out yet as far as I can tell, they probably gave some select people a testing unit.

Depending were you wanna tap in there are multiple spots. For my AIM solo DL2 I tapped into the FEM module on the passenger side. Remove the kick plate and find the red/blue and red twisted wires and tap. I believe the twisted red/blue & red color is consistent on the chassis if you wanna trying another location. I would get a copy of ISTA installed and you can view diagrams that show what modules/locations that bus runs. It makes wiring into the car much easier and more dependable than asking people on the forums :-D
Red/Blue is CAN+ Red is CAN- Last edited by zinner; 06-07-2021 at 08:40 AM.. |

Sure. The PTF one is available now, I have one on the way. That and the Dorch Stage 2 HPFP I put in over Thanksgiving will make it so I don't really have to worry about ethanol content, I'll just overdo it every fill up and everything will be gravy.

It's really great to run a BootMod3 FlexFuel MultiMap tune with a CANBus ethanol sensor. It just adjusts the tune for the exact amount of ethanol in the tank. You are already future proofed with the Dorch2 capacity if you want to upgrade your turbo at some point. If you ever want to do that, or want to run full E85 then you'll need a LPFP upgrade. The Precision Raceworks Stage2.5v2 with the Walbro 535 matches well with the Dorch2. https://www.kiesmotorsports.com/prod...8;_ss=r?aff=22 Hope this helps! |
