That is exactly right. It depends on the firmware on your Stage 1. If you have a compatible Stage 1, you just need the USB/serial cable and the software and you can adjust boost. I will tell you that once you get over 4 to 4.25 psi, it starts feeling unnaturally boosted and the power delivery is not as smooth (but still awesome!) I suggest you post your questions on n54tech.com or email BMS directly.

Correct you were able to increase boost with the older version, Burger Tuning found that it is not safe to increase boost if the tune cannot monitor the needed variables

the new stage 1's, you can add the blue tooth to. Assuming you cant adjust boost up, only down .Any other reason to get the blue tooth?

Also, can I run e85 on a stage 1.

At most I will do an intake along with the tune. Thanks for the help BTW.

I'm pretty sure stage 1 doesn't allow for Bluetooth or e85

No use for the Bluetooth with stage 1
to run E85, get the JB4 stage 2

I actually just upgraded from stage 1 to JB4. Stage 1 was great for the money, if you want more power and dont plan on doing DP or E85 or any other mods it's a great way to add ~50hp in 10 minutes. I had it on my car for 4 months then decided I wanted to do other modding so I sold it and went JB4. It actually feels smoother at lower speeds in comfort mode. I have the EWG harness, Flex fuel wires, and ordered a DP and CP. I put in 2 gallons of E85 but I'm gonna log it and see if I can go higher.

Quick question (new to the F30 world)

If I went with jb4 would I be able to run their map 7 with race fuel if the car is completely stock?

I'm new so bare with me guys.

For the 1st generation JB Stage 1s, did you have to specify whether or not you needed a PWG or EWG? I noticed in the For Sale subforum, people are always specifying one or the other.

BUT, when I look at Burger's website, it only has 2 connections (none to WG).

Bumping this old thread to echo what the OP originally stated. I just switched to a full JB4 and immediately I could tell the difference shifting in sport mode, it's so much smoother with the JB4.

The shifting with the stage 1 never really bothered me, sometimes it seemed like the car was "confused" when to shift or would shift really hard for no reason. After some testing last night, that didn't happen at all with the JB4.

That's strange. My experience with the stage 1 was, meh. Not substantially faster than stock. Certainly no where near the 40/50hp claims.

I only did about 150 miles with the stage 1 in the car, but didn't notice weird shifting or drivability problems.

That's all I ever run. BJ's 93 is the same price as everyone elses 91, and sometimes I get discounts from food shopping, so I typically run BJ's gas.

It's possible my Stage 1 is bad, or defective.

93 is always recommended no matter what map.

This is just a stage 1, but good to know! Hopefully I'll have an adapter in a couple of days.

I have MPPK. Would either of these affect that or is there another box recommended (besides the $2100 "DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner Stage 1 for BMW F30 335i (EWG) (MPPK)" Why is there such a huge price delta between the Dinan and most of the others?

Get the Jb4 and set it on map 1 or a flash tune and call it a day

My suggestion is to ask the people in b58 3 series forum or the guys who make the jb4...since this is the n55 f 3 series forum you're not gonna get much help..
