Diesel is pretty much out in my area. Filled up at Wrexham Road BP with £30 max limit and that filled up the X2.

(I actually need it for lads football away tomorrow long trip).

Yup, MB, it's all going swimmingly.
And why the f*ck are those 20,000 drivers who left the UK going to return, I wonder!?!
As Marina Hyde from The Guardian put it, "If only the UK could panic-buy prime ministers who know what they're doing".

Enjoy Derbyshire 😉

Not sure which is worse, someone filling up with 18 quid or my daughter putting £103 in.in her defence, that is the car we are all insured to drive so it will be the one most likely used this week.....

If you are struggling for fuel to get back mcoops just let me know and I can give you a lift 😉

I do blame the media though for this incident they love it and have turned a small availability issue into a "bank run" but people are dangerously stupid at times and the media know it.

Don't disagree, Wills, the media has whipped up a shitstorm, as usual, which could have been contained, possibly. Initial reports were focused on BPs announcement about station closures and it spread from there. At the heart of the problem is the shortage of drivers, of course.

Not defending the current lot in charge but according to this commercial fleet website only 631 HGV tests took place between April and June in the first lockdown. The corresponding amount for the same period in 2019 was over 18,000. In total 12 months of testing has been lost. You could argue that would have gone some way towards offsetting those EU nationals who went home (many because of Covid - not all I accept). I was at my DVSA centre a few weeks back, there's a massive backlog of tests but apparently capacity for tests has been increased dramatically and also changes made to HGV tests.

I'm a major supporter of investment in public transport, including rail and the same site has an Interesting report on rail V road freight. 90% goes by road so unless someone has the foresight to invest heavily in the rail network we'll still be building new roads and adding lanes to motorways. Notwithstanding the environmental impact of reducing lorries on roads. I blame Beeching

Everyone keeps saying there is a shortage of fuel.

There isn't. There is loads of fuel.
It is a delivery driver shortage and morons panic buying which has caused pumps to run dry.

Then you have even bigger idiots who don't use their cars during the week who also have the sudden urge to brim the tank because they have jumped on the bandwagon.

I could go on about idiots panic buying fuel they don't need, but I won't.

Instead I will complain that this has forced me into an EV today and I'm floating around in the Tesla when I would rather be burning fossil fuels.
My goodness the transition to EVs in a few years will be painful. I am not looking forward to it.

Enjoy the Tesla. At least you can. I’ll be running my mum around and keeping a range of 150 for the 130 mile back and practicing range anxiety for when I change to EV...

Don't worry, if the worst comes to the worst on the way back I've got somewhere in the west midlands and in Luton you can stop at and stay.

Absolutely. It's a media created problem.

They've been banging on now for weeks about the lack of HGV drivers, shortages in the shops, lack of CO2 etc.

They must be loving this. They are already running stories how Christmas will be affected, toys stock in containers in ports, turkeys unable to be slaughtered, vegetables rotting in the fields. They will all be hoping it does come to this so they have another crisis to report.

Fucking hate them.

Fawley refinery is the largest in the UK, and they stopped sending product out by rail a few years ago. The line is still there, and they still have freight slots to use it. Apparently it is too expensive vs road.

Really is shocking. Pootling around this morning and got stuck in what I initially assumed was some awful Saturday Enfield traffic. Ended up parking and walking the last half a mile to the shops, only to see it wasn't traffic, but a half mile queue to the Shell station. The road was totally empty further on!!!
