BMW Coolant Flange Replacement Kit

I was having some mods and maintenance done on my BMW F30 335i (75k miles) at the Indie Shop.

I had the REIN Mickey Mouse Billet Aluminum Coolant Flange Kit that I had purchased last year, and asked them to throw it on in 15 minutes. I doubted that the plastic coolant flange was badly corroded after only 75k miles. I was wrong, in that the plastic coolant flange was badly corroded and crumbled once removed. The hose clamp is one time use. So it is hard to remove (cutting wheel). But if the flange is crushed with some vise grips, it comes right off, without having to cut the hose. The corrosion is behind the bolt holes on the engine side of the flange.

So the lesson learned is to get the Billet Aluminum Coolant Flange Kit ASAP to have it on hand, just in case. Then replace the coolant flange during your next coolant flush (every 50k miles).

NOTE: Clamp and O-Ring included. DOUBLE CHECK Get an extra set of bolts.
Recommended clamp size is 25-40mm

There is also a coolant tank vent overflow hose that is defective and breaks at 50k-60k miles. Buy two, one to install, and one to keep in the trunk or garage. Replace it now or with the next coolant flush. I think the flaw is that the engine twists due to torque while driving, but the hose is clamped to the body above the radiator, so the rigid hose connector turns white meaning it is about to break. Duh!!!

If you want to DIY this, make sure the engine is cold and have a 50/50 mix of Coolant and Distilled Water (1 Gallon) handy. Make sure to protect the belts from leaking coolant with rags or plastic bags. Also learn the auto coolant system bleed procedure on an N55 equipped BMW.
