Hey all, I've been adding some M-Performance parts to my '17 340i. I did the rear spoiler (OEM) and obvisouly painted that body color. But I just ordered the rear diffuser and will be ordering the front splitter as well (both OEM) and BMW states they come matte black. Should the rear diffuser and the front splitter be painted body color or left the matte finish? If left matte, should they be clear coated to avoid fading? Most I see on the road look matte. Oh, and I have a Black Sapphire exterior. Thanks!

Clear coating the matte so it can be maintained as a painted surface would be better than plastic trim detailer on matte plastic.

Personally, I'd rather have it color matched with gloss black center, all gloss black, or in your case maybe all BSM.

Thanks, maybe I'll do the gloss black to match the trim around the doors and the kidney grilles and have enough difference in color that it pops.

gloss, piano or jet black, to match the door and kidney trim sounds perfect!

My car is Sapphire Black Metallic and the first mod that I did 2 1/2 years ago was the rear diffuser. The stock piece was actually grey. After considering painting it to match the car, I kept the diffuser matte black. I'm glad that I did.

It's a subtle contrast to the car's paint. It's also down in the car's shadow line as well. Plus that area picks up road dirt quickly which would show much more if I matched the car color. Early on I treated it but it's not really necessary. It still looks great!

Yes! Mine is imperial blue (navy) and I'm going for the gloss black M Performance kit to match the grilles. Gives it a nice but subtle contrast against the blue.

Matte is standard though I believe.
