Plug nail in RFT?

So I picked up a nail in my OEM Continental RFT see pic:

It never lost pressure, and has not lost any air since I first noticed it a month ago.

I am looking for some guidance as to whether or not I can plug this?

Most everything online says RFTs are not repairable, however if the nail is in the tread like this and the tire was not driven on without pressure I don't see why I couldn't?

I'd definitely pull that metal out, ream the hole and insert a plug drizzled in glue. I've had good luck with the $5 kit from harbor freight.

Unless the tire is on the rear AND doing burnouts, safe to say you'll get full life outta that tire with a plug and proper inflation.

I do not believe it's close enough to sidewall to be an issue.

Yes, you can. I had a much bigger nail in my RFT, and much closer to sidewall. Most chain tire shops refused, citing the non repairable RFT and too close to sidewall. Took it to a high rated local place and they did a plug/patch for $20, including all the labor to remove, dismount tire, patch, plug, remount, and rebalance.

$20 for all that is really good. I would have expected $40-$50.

It's on a front wheel. Cool, yeah I have a kit I bought off amazon that is probably similar to yours. I'll give it a shot then.

Yeah. Held up a few thousand more miles. I had really bad luck with my RFTs. I had that puncture, then a puncture in front, then a bubble in the other front. I eventually did a bunch of donuts and drifting and burned off the backs, then replaced the entire set with PS4S.

I attached some pics of my nail/plug and my bubble (front tire) on the inside and out.

I plugged this for a neighbor, and it had no issues for as long as he had it.
