KEY FOB not working only starts the car
So after about 3 months of looking for a solution to my problem I have decided to start this discussion. I have a 2015 BMW f30 320i.
My key fob stopped working out of nowhere, it will not unlock the doors, lock the doors, or open the trunk. All it does is start the car. To note this fob works without having to hold it up to the steering column every time I start the car. So I decided to spend 400 on a new key fob from the BMW Dealership. The new key will not connect to my car fully. Every time I use it I have to hold the fob up to the steering column for 10-30 seconds in order to start the car. This key fob also doesn't unlock, lock, or open the trunk. Yes, the battery is good. If anyone has any solutions please let me know. Thanks for your time. |

If battery is good, then I'd suspect it's just done. The NFC/RFID (whatever they use) will start a dead job if you hold it to the column to start the car and doesn't need battery in that case.

Comfort access has never worked since I got the car. Or I don't know how to use it. Yes the buttons on the fobs don't work but one thing to note is sometimes when I press the lock button twice the door locks will make a click sound and move very slightly left and right. Also the door locks do work manually if you press the middle door lock button below the hazards. Power supply to the antennas? Is that an easy fix.

Im experiencing something very similar on my '16.
Started two days ago, been trying different batteries to make sure that's not the issue... Seems like the fob has somehow become un-programmed. None of the buttons work and I have to remove blade key to manually lock and unlock driver's door each time. Super frustrated and looking for a solution! |

I’d replace the battery with a new and fresh one before dumping the key fob. You state the battery is good but didn’t indicate how you determined that to be the case. My experience is even s small voltage drop affects their performance.

They gave me the key and said it was already programmed to my car I went out to my car to test it out it didn't work. Then I went back in and they tried and it didn't work then they said no refunds that was it.

That's unacceptable excuse dealer can program the key within your vehicle in order to pair, take it back and ask for service manager and see what they can do for you.

But you should check the antennas and loose wiring if the car battery is fine. |

Sometimes I think we should name these dealers here. This is just ridiculous.
I would go back and if they repeat the answer then I'll start advertising in the media... Yelp, google, FB, etc. My thought... since two fobs are bad, one of them a brand new one, can't be a receiver in the car that is out of order? OP apparently have only one original key fob. Have you not received 2 when you bought the car? |

Clearly there is a problem with the car. You need to get it diagnosed and fixed by a dealer. Don’t know if you bought the car from a dealer. You stated the fob never worked. You must have received a really good deal to drive off in a car that you know there is a problem.

How do you know you even have comfort access? Do you have the ribs on top of the door handle? It was an option at first. |

you sound like the kind of idiot that dealerships love. "Don't worry about the purchase price of this car, Don't worry about the term of your loan, Don't worry about the interest rate... Just look at what we got you for a monthly payment!!"
If I were you, I would have left the key on the counter at the dealership, then call my credit card company, and reverse the charges before I even turned to walk out the door. |

That certainly answers that question. Don’t feel bad I know people who didn’t know they had comfort access on one of their cars for 2 years. They never knew what the little ribs were on a Toyota. They knew their other car because it had a big black button to lock the car on the door handle.
