Evolve or GAD tuning

Hi

I am going to put the 340i in for a stage 2 remap in the next few months and am deciding between evolve and GAD. Has anyone had any experience with either of these.

Evolve seems to be gaining around 77hp and 90nm and GAD around 65hp and 70nm. What seems strange is the results compared to the 335i. Evolve at circa 380hp for the 335i and 444hp on the 340i. GAD seem to get around 380hp as well on the 335i but 400hp on the 340i so a fair bit of difference.

Iím not overly interested in the bm3 or mhd route I want a company to take care of it all for me and make sure I am not getting any knock and the afr,s aregood etc without me doing logs.

Any help will be appreciated

Stu

I don't have experience with petrol engines, but my diesel was remapped from evolve and it was a very good experience.

Very good results and reliability.

Maybe Imran@Evolve could help you

I used the Evolve R option for my 2018 335d X-Drive F31. It was very easy to install in a few mins. Works great and I can revert to stock whenever I want. Great to deal with and any further developments of the map, or if you lose your copy of the remap / stock map they will replace them free. Highly recommended.

Had my 330d remapped by Evolve last year. Makes me smile every time I put my foot down. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the input. I hadnít heard of gad before researching popular on the other forums for the m cars and deal with a lot of high end cars. They seem to do a complete custom map based on driving style and parameters recorded on the ecu rather than adapting a standard base map.

Looking last night a lot of people seem to recommend dms as well for bmw. I have sent an enquiry to them as well.

BM3 user chiming in.

You don't have to log anything, just apply the map and that's it, enjoy driving a remapped car.

It's just that logging is an option that becomes available to a BM3 user which many take advantage of. I'm runing the stock maps with no alterations.

In addition, with BM3 you have full control of engine burble settings in case you get bored of the setting you thought you'd like when you had it mapped. BMW service flashed over you map? Reflash it back. Want stage 2, yep $50 to add it on BM3. Oh and yes, re-sell your BM3 when you sell your car. All this without having to 'ask a favour' is what appealed to me.

My only concern with bm3 is if your not logging how do you know itís running the right afr, has no knock etc. This is my I was looking at a tune so it is all taken care of.

I am a bit risk adverse naturally so trying too make it as reliable as possible

The ECU strategy on these engines is to avoid knock. So even if the map promoted knock, the ECU backs off to remove it. You lose power if it constantly does that, so not a good map. I've had no such issues.

On the AFR front, Charlie from Surrey Rolling Road dyno'd mine with an independent AFR probe inserted. He said mine looked to be mapped well AFR wise.

But when it comes down to it, an independent UK tuner has tuned what? 10's of B58's at best? MHD and BM3 have mapped thousands. So if the question is about the safest map, I think the BM3/MHD mapping solutions take the crown. What's to say the 'tuner' doesn't just have the BM3 tuner license and bangs a BM3 OTS map onto your car anyway and calls it his own?

I'd go to a company like Evolve if I had a updated turbo, and other mods that made my car sit outside of a standard map, but on a stock car I'd definitely consider a self tune option.

Nisfan interesting take on it and totally get where you are coming from. What power did you make at Surrey rolling road out of interest.

I kind of agree with Nisfan. A generic map on a stock car should be OK and give you the extra grunt you need. Once you start modifying the car, you ideally need bespoke tuning to get the most out of the mods. That said a rolling road map bespoke to even a stock car is likely to give you more optimised performance as stock cars will vary. I am assuming that your stock car has nothing wrong with it in the first place.
Personally, I would have a bespoke map tuned to my car.

Unicorn Motor Developments in Stockport get brilliant results on the 40i.
Would highly recommend them.
