I spent some time cleaning the car yesterday. This morning I took some decent photos with the square 400M winter (all season) setup on the car.

In the past I've run dedicated performance winter tires for the winter season. I got a decent deal on the new 400Ms with the correct TPMS and tires, so I'll be running the all season tire for winter until they wear out. Certainly not an ideal tire for winter, but good enough for northern VA.

The square 400Ms with OEM all season RFT 225/45/18 ContiProContacts are much more "floaty" than the staggered 441Ms with OEM summer RFT Bridgestone S001s. Noise level is about the same.

Here are the photos:

good reviews, the car looks good!

I love my 441m's but cant help but hate them when I have to wash the car! I bet the 400m's are a little easier?

Amazing Wagon!

I am admiring your wagon specs and picts. I just ordered a 2016 328ix wagon similar to yours. M sport, Estoril Blue, Track handling package with non-runflats!

I have my eye on the BMW crossbars since I already have the bike racks from my mini that should work. I also have an old Thule rack from the 90's that I will try to retrofit on there.

I am keeping my E90 M3 sedan for track and special occasions. Excited to use this as the family / out outdoor adventure car like you do.

Now all I need is to find some 400M wheels to mount snows on. Car should arrive in mid Dec - I am pumped.

Thanks for sharing all these photos - definitely reinforces my decision.

Thanks! The 400m's are about the same. The spokes are about twice as deep, so it's harder to clean between them.

Sounds like a nicely optioned F31! I'm jealous that you have an E90 M3 for track days. I'm trying to decide if I want to pick up a cheap track car in the spring or a project (classic F100 or C10 pickup) that I'll restore.

While I had the wheel and tire sets off the car, I weighed them on a bathroom scale I keep in the garage. Not super accurate, but it gave me decent ballpark weights.

The 400m wheels (18x8) with 225/45/18 Continental ContriProContact SSR run flat tires weigh 53 lbs each.

The 441m front wheels (18x8) with 225/45/18 Bridgestone Potenza S001 run flats weigh 50 lbs each.

The 441m rear wheels (18x8.5) with 255/40/18 Bridgestone Potenza S001 run flats weigh 56 lbs each.

So overall, the weight of my 400m wheels/tires is the same as my 441m wheels/tires.

Here's a crappy cell phone shot. I'll take better photos eventually.

do you prefer the 400M or the 441M? I am undecided ....

I like the appearance of the 441M wheels. I like the practicality of the square 400M setup. My favorite wheels are probably BBS LMs, but I can't justify the price of those.

yeah I take the square set independently
I have a 2015 car so I wonder if it makes any difference to get the 441 or the 400

any suggestion? these are going to be winter tires

I am debated because I think 441 looks larger but they are thinner and ''older'' (2013-2014 models) -> ferric? silver?
400 are more bulky but newer (2015-2016 models)

The 441Ms came on my 2015 F31 from the factory. Both the 441M and 400M will fit your car. You should decide what you think will look the best on your car.

Am I correct that the 400M are more ''3D'' than the 441M?

I suggest you head to your local BMW dealer and walk the lot to checkout the the difference between the 400 and 441M wheels.

I took my car in for my first service today (7600 miles). I walked the lot and showroom for about 2 hours checking out all of the 2015 and 2016 models. I saw many instances of both 400M and 441M wheels.

It's totally a subjective choice. I like both styles.

I picked up a set of BMW cross bars for my F31. I've run Thule racks on my previous cars, so I already have a pair of Thule Peloton bike trays, a pair of wheel-on mounts (not yet installed in the pictures), a roof box, and other accessories. The BMW cross bars can be had for $200, which is a great deal compared to ~$500 for a set of Thule cross bars and foot adapters.

The BMW cross bars have a wider track than the "normal" Thule cross bars. To make my existing Thule components work on the BMW cross bars, I picked up 6 grade 8 washers from Home depot to slide over the Thule T-Bolts. Now everything bolts up perfectly and is secure. There is plenty of thread engagement left on the T-Bolts.

I only run the roof rack when needed. After loosening all 4 corner mounts, the whole rack comes off as one assembly, which I store via hanging on a wall in the garage. At some point I may pick up a fairing.
Thanks for the pictures. They look great. How about the wind noise? Are they significantly more?

Thanks!

Regarding wind noise:
- If you are able to utilize the black rubber channel strip BMW provides, it cuts down on the wind noise.
- Having the sunroof shade closed makes a significant difference. To the point where I forget the roof rack is there.
- Even with the cargo box on top, there wasn't much noticeable wind noise. Even my wife commented on how quite it was.

I'm considering a few simple aesthetic mods for my F31. I started looking through the BMW parts catalog and came across the "M Performance Side Stripes Kit". It's a black and silver vinyl strip that runs along the belt line of car. It's simple enough to install and removal should be just as easy if I don't like it.

I'm also considering the M Performance Side skirt decal. Though that may give the car an unbalanced appearance without the black front splitter in place.

Both vinyl stripe kits can be seen on the car in the photo below:

My driver's side (left) fog lamp cracked (I assume it was a rock). Unfortunately the lens itself cannot be replaced. The entire fog lamp assembly needs to be replaced. I ordered a replacement assembly from FCP Euro for ~$70 shipped. It even included a new bulb!

I also ordered some lamin-x clear protective film, precut for F30/31 fog lamps, as an attempt to avoid further fog lamp assembly replacements.

Install was very simple. I removed the driver's side (left) wheel to make it easier on myself. I think it only took 30 minutes, start to finish. Installing the precut lamin-x was also easy. Clean the lenses thoroughly and apply the film. ~5 minutes or less.

Cracked lens:

Wheel removed (mmmm, brakes):

Splash guard removed (~10 screws). The fog lamp assembly is only held by 2 T25 torx bolts:

All fixed!

New vs old:

Not much new to report with the F31. I'm still loving the car. It makes for a really fun daily driver and excellent family hauler.

In March (2016) I picked up a 1991 BMW 318is. I flew to GA to purchase the car and drove it home 10 hours to VA. I've been spending my spare time working on the E30. It's quite a cool car and extremely clean (and stock!). I really enjoy working in it and driving it. Here are some photos of the E30:
