Problem flashing XHP

I'm using a Windows 10 laptop running BlueStack Android Emulator with XHP flash tool app installed.
I connect the OBD cable to the car and plug in the USB end into the laptop.
I press the Start button on the car.
I start the XHP flash tool and hit connect and it says that it doesn't recognize any vehicles.

What am I doing wrong and how do I get it to recognize my vehicle?

Android is not shitty. I am an iPhone user as well but let's not generalise things. Blue stack won't work or at least I didn't manage to make it work. I think it acts weird with usb or any connection.

I am using an android VM and I have flashed my car no problem using a late ish version of android. Try installing it this way and let us know how it goes.

What kind of Android VM have you used?

I tried VirtualBox, BlueStacks and Anydroid.

I'm starting to think its the OBD to USB cable that's the problem

I am using Parallels for Mac. As long as the VM and the android version you use are happy with outside connections you should be fine.

In windows, can you see the cable in the device manager?

I can see the cable. But I don’t have the OTG cable they recommend which is what the problem is I think. I just have a OBD to USB cable. I the documentation they mention having FTDI RS232” chipset which I don’t think regular OBD cable has

OTG is for the host device, which would be the android device you use. It lets you mount external devices. But on the laptop that is not an issue. The chipset is important on the cable is important. Which one you have? What do you see on the device manager?

If in doubt get a reputable cable.

I currently have this cable:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And just ordered this cable:

https://www.bimmergeeks.net/product-...eeks-pro-cable

Assuming the cable from bimmergeeks is good, I should be able to just plug the other end into my USB port on my laptop, correct?

The first cable won't work. You need a Dcan cable...which is the second one.

Yeah the first one won't work. I have the second one from bimmergeeks and have been working flawlessly for 3 years
