Sirius activation question

Would like to find out if the Sirius activation is something that can be done by simple coding yourself or it requires an additional unlocking code from BMW?

My car is a basic no-Nav 2012 328i F30 with the Sirius-ready S693A package. My dealer said it costs $500 to activate it. I asked if during the program-update for "auto/start last setting" (that they agreed to do) since they are already dong the update process can they could just flip the software switch for the Sirius option to ON? He said it's not that simple because they would need to request first an activation authorization from BMW in order to "flip the switch".

This is what I have:
S693A Preparation BMW satellite radio
S697A S6NHA
S645A BMW US Radio BMW US Radio

You need a FSC code in order to activate the Sirius. That FSC code has to be ordered from BMW AG in Germany

There are a number of coders wha can activate it remotely after getting the FSC code. I used BPM Sport in LA to do my sister's 2011 328i. Bimmerscoding.com in Brooklyn can also do it remotely. It will cost around $250 and includes one year of service.

1 year free subscription is from getting FSC, not from activating. You're paying $250 for just changing VO and VO Coding -too d@mn expensive. Go to your dealership and save $250. It cost 250 for FSC and activation at the dealership

Most dealers charge more than $250. They usually charge at least that for the FSC plus an hour of labor to activate. I believe the one year subscription is triggered by activating with Sirius. Doesn't really matter since a radio that has never been activated gets the " free " year once you start a subscription.

Thank you for all the inputs. My dealer wants $500, that includes getting the code. So the actual (activation) coding can be done DIY or online with a company, but I guess there is no way around getting the code from BMW?

Correct. I guess I negotiated the price and the installation with my dealership.

I think Bimmer Retrofit sells FSC for less than $200. Import it yourself, call Sirius and save a ton

Code or FSC will always come from BMW, it's just that other sources sells them cheaper than most dealerships.

Bimmer Retrofit does FSC + activation for $185 only. This is the way to go, cheaper than what it cost me and I thought that was already cheap.
