Rear Brake Sensor
My rear brakes are squealing like crazy so I want to change the pads. The car still tells me I have 20k miles left on them. I was wondering if I could reuse the sensor or would I have to get a new one? Or is there a fix to stop the noise other than changing the pads? The brakes have plenty life on them and the sensor hasn't tripped, but I can't take the squealing anymore. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Squeal is usually caused by inadequate lubrication of the pad to caliper mating surfaces. A sensor only has to be replaced if tripped. The 20k miles remaining is only a guestimmate, and not a very good one at that. You must visually confirm the pad condition. My experience with that:

Pads don't make noise, metal to metal contact does. There's nothing wrong with the OEM. Your dealer response can be translated as 'we don't want to bother taking the time to fix this'. I'm sure he'd be happy to change them, for $300 or more.

Update: Purchased some new brake pads and the squealing is gone! The factory pads I pulled off still had 80% pad left. Not sure why they squealed so much but after dealing with it for 8 months, it's finally nice to brake and not sound like a dump truck. Now when people turn their heads it'll be because of my exhaust, and not my loud ass brakes!! 🤣🤣 Thanks for all the input!

Bentley manual does a great job of detailing where to dab the brake paste. Surprisingly, not on the back of the brake pad.
Did mine about 5,000 miles ago, front and rear, using their approach. Not a peep. podman |
