Is Over-the-air map update free in Canada? Dealer charges 1h labor to check version
I got very confused because the dealer tells me the navigation updates over-the-air for free, whereas BMW connected drive indicates it's by subscription at $75/year. I asked dealer if they can check if my navigation is up-to-date, dealer would charge 1h labor to look at it at $177 which is worth 2 year subscription.
Here are screenshots of my iDrive, can anyone tell me if I my map version is up-to-date, and if map update is free in Canada? Thank you! Last edited by sinopath; 05-29-2020 at 02:20 PM.. |

Try another BMW dealer and show the screen shots to someone at the parts counter. They may be able to answer your questions.
Also there is a guy from BMW Canada on this Canada thread that answers these type of questions. Search back a few pages and you will find him. Found him, Canadian33. You could also call the telephone number listed on the BMW online site that you have in the screen shots and speak to them. I have found them helpful. Good luck! |

Not up to date, over the air update only works on 2018 and up I believe.
Maps can be downloaded online for cheap if not free, all u need to buy is a FSC code I've updated my maps in 2015 435i to NEXT 2020-2 few weeks back for 30$ Downloaded maps for free, and bought the lifetime fsc code online |

Over the air map updates are included for 3 years from in service date ( if equipped). After that, you can purchase or renew the subscription via the ConnectedDrive store.
You can also check your current subscription in the ConnectedDrive store to see if you have a valid term and when it expires. Regarding USB map updates, you can only do this if you have a FSC code that is valid for the map version you are trying to install. For example, if the FSC code is valid for 3 years, and you have a vehicle that came with say 2016-3 map. you could install up to 2019-3 maps via usb. However, your vehicle will likely already be at the equivalent map of 2019-3 based on the OTA maps |

I should've done the same before the expiration of 3-year subscription of map update, however, I knew nothing about ConnectedDrive service when I got the car and did not receive any notification of expiration.

Does anyone know the version of the latest North American EVO map from BMW Canada?
My 2016 does OTA update but I never get the notifications...I have a valid subscription and it just auto-updates itself. I'm currently on 2020-1 but I see 2020-2 available in the USA. Last edited by ImBlue; 06-07-2020 at 06:07 PM.. |
