Brakes and rotors replaced multiple times and still squeak in the front

I have a 2018 430i convertible and I've replaced the front brakes and rotors twice at pep boys and they still continued to make noise so I got my money back.

Went to firestone and they lubricated it and it was good for a week or so. I had them replace the brakes and rotors. Made noise after 2 weeks. Then they replaced them again and told me they used higher quality parts this time.

About 3 weeks in and its squeaking again. I'm lost on what to do other than go to BMW which is going to charge an arm and a leg.

Squeaking comes from metal to metal contact. Proper lubrication prevents that. You either have to find a good brake mechanic or learn how to do it yourself. The good news is that brakes are about the easiest items to DIY. Youtube it.

It would be helpful to know when they squeak, what brake kit, pads and rotors you have.

If the brake pads are not already chamfered out of the box, that could be an option to ask the shop to try.

Chamfering not only the leading and trailing edge of the brake pads, but also the top and bottom edges. Trying the eliminate any 90 degree edge.

Not exactly the same thing, but I’ve thought of it as how one might “de-tune” the edges of their snowboard or skis near the tip and tail, so that the edge does not “catch” as too easily. You’d typically “dull” 1” of the edges at the tip and tail.

On the brake pads, the 90 degree edges could possibly be a contributing factor to brake squeal as it makes contact with the rotor/disc when braking.

F30guy, echoing the same.

Please share the details including

- What brake pads and rotors were installed prior to being replaced by "higher quality" parts
