Brake Caliper Cover

Hey guys! I have a 2017 320i with base brakes. I am getting my stock rims powder coated gloss black. My car is jet black. My rims are currently plasti dipped black, and I have plasti dipped them like 4 times because it always gets messed up. I really love the black on black look.

My V brave is wrapped red and I want to have red brakes. I saw these covers online for $199 and I thought it was a good deal. I like how it's a solid red color without any nonsense on it. I want to put a high temperature BMW sticker on them. I think it would look awesome.

What do you guys think? Will this negatively impact my braking performance? Is this a stupid mod?

I have attached a picture, but here is the link:

I agree. I tried painting my calipers on my own, and it came out horribly. I spent hours trying to remove it, and I finally was able to. I called a few shops near me, and they all said to just get caliper covers in the color I want.

Like you said, stupid mod. At worst, calipers covered with plastic could overheat, causing caliper problems & melted covers. But if you like the look go for it!

I think for 3-400 you could get them powder coated.

I know your car would be down while they are getting done but well worth it.

I spent $200 to get used 340mm grey Brembos and 330mm rear calipers

There are better ways to spend $200. Caliper covers are looked at like fake hood scoops in the car community.

Because they're lame, look terrible and don't fool anyone into thinking you have a nice set of Brembo brakes.

Ah I see. I don't want it to cause any problems to the braking system

I used spray paint and it just came out horribly. I think if I went in with a brush, it would be a totally different story

Hmm I didn't think of it like that but I guess it makes sense haha

I actually thought it would look cool. I'm not tryna fool anyone tho. I just want some red accent behind my black wheels. I actually wanted to get them painted or powder coated instead but it's too expensive for me

Yeah that was the plan initially but that's a little too expensive for me

Maybe try to respray them? Do a lot of research on taking the paint off and spray them again. There is a lot of videos on how to do this and give yourself enough time for them to dry.

Good luck 🍀

Yeah do the prep part is the hardest and it's damn tough to get the entire caliper to be spray painted. It definitely requires a lot of time, effort, and patience. I'm considering getting a ship to do it later when I can afford to and really want to. Right now I'm saving up to get my rims powder coated black.

I spray mine, along with the hubs, with Plastikote caliper paint. I touch them up yearly when I've got the wheels off to rotate the tires.

Did you make your caliper metallic color? Did you use spray paint?
