So I recently installed the GFBDV plus for my n20 WITHOUT the stiffer spring so it could be more OEM like and so I wouldn't get the fluttering noise while maintaining the benefits of not having a plastic dv valve. Is it normal for the car to make fluttering noises even without the stiffer spring ? Is this compressor surge ? Also the guy who installed it told me he had to drain the coolant to install it which I call bs but idk I wasn't going to argue. Any ideas what this could be ? I swore you only got the fluttering noise if you installed the stiffer spring.

Thats not bad at all, its from the dv closing while theres still pressure from the turbo. when it can be damaging on the long term is when the flutter happens right after peak boost. Drive it for a while and let it break in and see if that settles down.

You were able to see the vid ? It doesn't show up for me. So compressor surge is when you get the fluttering noise right after you let go of the throttle ?

Yes, but its not happening at peak boost, so its not so bad.

You are fine, that is nothing to worry about. It is still stiff and will break in and become looser the more you drive it. I once ran without a BOV on a turbo 2jz with 650WHP for 40K. Nothing happened to turbo or engine. Not what I would recommend but what you are hearing is at the very bottom of the rpm where boost is not harmful so nothing to worry about.

I also installed a Gfb dv awhile back. I had an injen intake too. After I replaced the turbo inlet pipe it started to sound louder in sport and now driving the car with that sound makes it to die for. Trust me.

I have had my diverter valve in for a year now and have never had any flutter noise. As for draining the coolant thats BS.
