***OFFICIAL Ignition Coil Packs Thread***

OK fellas so I believe it's time for new ignition coil packs. I've noticed idle can be a little spotty and I'm experiencing some hesitations under light load. New coil packs and plugs may or may not resolve this issue, but with almost 65k on the odometer I figured it's time for new ones regardless. Anyway, I wanted to make a comprehensive thread regarding coil packs. List the options I've found with pricing and get feedback from forum members regarding which coils they have used and how they have performed.

OEM Replacement Options.

BMW Direct Ignition Coil - Delphi 12138616153: $27.95/ea from FCP Euro (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-12138616153-1)

BMW Direct Ignition Coil - Bosch 0221504470: $27.95/ea from FCP Euro (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...sch-0221504470)

BMW Direct Ignition Coil - Genuine BMW 12138616153: $63.56/ea from FCP Euro (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...il-12138616153) according to realoem these are Delphi coils

Ignition Coil - Bremi Mfg Part #12138616153 ECS Part #ES#3134101: $38.42/ea from ECS Tuning (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bremi-pa...138616153~bri/)

Ignition Coil - Febir Mfg Part #12138616153 ECS Part #ES#2873877: $49.70/ea from ECS Tuning (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-febi-par...138616153~feb/)

BMW F30/ F31/ F34/ F35 335i/ Li/ GT 2012-2015 N55 (Set of 6pcs), Cosmos Racing Product Code: BF30N55-ICS: $244.50 (https://www.cosmoracing.com/F30-F31-...-2012-2015-N55)

Upgrade

Precision Raceworks Coil Pack kit for N55: $480/kit (http://www.precisionraceworks.com/in...&product_id=89)

So what have you guys tried out? I'm thinking of just going with the Delphi OEM replacements. I'll be running these with the NGK 97506 plug gapped at 0.020"

I would just replace spark plugs. My factory ignition coils have been good to 90k miles. At this rate, you may only replace them once over the life of the car. I would just buy the genuine ignition coils closer to 100k miles and be done with it for the rest of the car's life.

I had 3 delphis fail in total. 2 at 65k miles about 500 miles after installing a BMS stage 1. The first one failed at around 40k miles. I personally don't like the delphis. They shouldn't fail that quickly. Ive had cars with over 100k on the original coil packs..... Not this one. I switched to the eldor packs and they are the ones BMW uses now. You can find the OEM non branded BMW ones online for $28-$35. I have them and my car runs great now. Switched all of them out around 65k and did a spark plug switch at around 62k. Hope this helps!

To be fair, there's a bit of a process to do warranty stuff through FCP euro. Not saying it's super difficult, but it can be a catch for some.

Well the car came with delphi. Kept throwing misfiring codes one after the other. Switched to Bosch which was a slight improvment but the handles on them coils is shitty. To the point where the connector would push itself out a tad bit so i had to tape it down. Ordered PR coils and a world of difference. Everyone was ranting about idle. Idle was def more smoother. On came the test of throttle resposne, waaaay smoother!! Dynoing the car in a few weeks so we see how she fares up.
