Installed Spoiler, How Long Should I Wait Until Car Wash?

Hello!

I just installed a rear trunk spoiler and was wondering, from other people's experience, how long would you recommend waiting until getting your car washed?

Thank you!

If you did the prep correctly (wash, dry, degrease of the trunk lid), used original 3M tape and preheat - 24 hr wait is plenty. I usually go an extra step and seal the edge gaps with clear compound and wait for another 24 - 48 hrs for the compound to solidify.

The KIES spoiler said it came with 3M installed. Not sure if it is what you mean original 3M.

Unfortunately, often enough the tape is not original 3M, but a knock-off of much lesser quality. That's the reason I had mentioned this fact.

Would you recommend to remove the spoiler and reapply with store bought 3M? I did see some adhesive not sticking already

look for 3M VHB 5952 tape. thats the best stuff there is, thats what i use to mount all my aero and it's had zero issues in the 3.5 years that i've owned the car.

Works very well.

jason.kan Once the spoiler is off the car, make sure that you clean-up both, the car trunk surface and the spoiler where the tape will be touching both. Degrease well. Use pre-heat - I use heat gun before installing the tape on the aero parts (step 1) and then on car panels (Step 2) as well. Don't overheat the panels - just make sure the surfaces are warm-fairly hot to the touch. Do not pre-heat the tape itself or once it is installed to the spoiler not to melt the tape prematurely.

Any recommendations of where to buy original 3M? I had no idea fake 3M even existed and actually just purchased 3M off of amazon to install my own spoiler. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09YLND67J?...roduct_details
Looked legit but I'm almost positive it's not authentic after taking a second look.

The tape you've purchased from Amazon might very well be legit, however, my experience with Amazon supply as you don't know how long it has been sitting in Amazon warehouse waiting to be purchased - one of the rolls I've received once was "aged" and not as sticky as would be expected. The trick to keep the tape in airtight package.

Tape "reactivation" is performed by gently heating up the tape material. The most important part is degreasing the surfaces you are attaching to each other first.

Shop for VHB tape per toxik
