Can you post a pic of the service report when you get your car back? It should have descriptive information about the diagnosis procedure and the findings which would be really great information to have on the forum.

Changing the injector and spark plug makes sense as the first logical steps. In order for BMW to approve an engine replacement, the dealer had to provide more root cause details. Perhaps you could find out. Will be very helpful to forum members.

If the warranty runs out, why do you care?

Wondering if it's worth picking up a scope and checking for any issues before a failure happens... if nothing but for peace of mind.

You can get them for like 15 bucks that connect to your phone.

I have friends that are professional mechanics but not at the BMW dealership. Whenever I have a vehicle approaching the end of the warranty period, I pay them $100 to do a thorough inspection at their garage and give me a list of issues that need to be resolved. Them I take it to the BMW dealership with the list and ask them to fix that stuff. Worked like a charm on my last two bimmers. I assume it would work at an independent garage also if you don't have any mechanic friends, just not sure how much they will charge you.

Well I blew up my intake manifold after overboosting to nearly 40psi on the Pure 800. Seems like the meth kit was leaking meth even though it wasn't turned on and it ignited in the manifold.

I guess when it comes to meth, be careful. These manifolds are $1800 new, I was lucky enough to get a barely used one for $700.

I don't think this is going to be a common issue, but figured i'd drop this in here anyways.

Dunno then. E85 blends can increase crank time, so that's why I was asking.

Hi Everyone.

My B58 340i of 03/2017 35k km started to show hard times firing up.
on Friday I left the car 2 days in the garage in low/cold temperature (5°C).
Today i started the car and it took 2-3 seconds (like 10/15 crank spin) to start (longer than usual).
I tried back with the warm car just one crank spin and started flawlessly.
I0m running 95RON gasoline

Anyone had the same issue?

Yes, I haven't had BMW find out what it is yet during this pandemic. I only had it be like that 3 times during the ownership or 3 years. As it doesn't happen often enough, it is hard to get dealerships to figure it out. What I would do is charge the spark plug and observe, and also check battery.

Normal. Happens when I don't drive my car for a few days in the winter when it's really cold. We also have a really strong starter motor due to auto start/stop (I leave mine disabled). I'm running Castrol 0W-40 oil year-round.

Greetings,

I have a 2016 340i with 22K miles on it and I am having some idling/misfiring issues (or at least what I think is misfire).

This doesn't happen all the time but the car sometimes just jerks or bogs for a split second and then returns to normal, it's very inconsistent.

Mostly happens idling but has also happened during low rpm cruising entering my parking garage.

Mods
-VRSF catless DP
-Dinan Midpipe
-JB4

I got rid of the oem spark plugs and replaced them with NGK ones gapped to .22 and car still does the same thing. I use 91 octane.

Checked for codes using the JB4 app and nothing.

Right now I am in the process of installing methanol injection, however I want to make sure the car is running good and healthy before going any further and adding more power.

Thinking about replacing ignition coils next. Any advice or help greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I'm having a coil issue but it throws a n ignition combustion period code.
If the issue was happening on acceleration, I'd definitely point a finger at the JB4. What have you done so far to eliminate the JB4 as the cause? Switch to map 0?
If you haven't yet, I'd completely unhook all the JB4 connections and go back to stock and see what that gets you.
If it doesn't fix it and you have to take the car to the dealership, you'd have to do that anyway.

@Alan340, when did the symptoms begin to appear? Did you install the above mentioned mods one at a time or all at once?

It barely happens under acceleration, but it has happened. And yes, I have removed the JB4 completely and even took it to the dealership but wasn't able to replicate it over there. A mechanic gave me his number and I sent him a video of the boging/misfire or whatever it is problem and said it was normal.

Was your issue just like mine? Did you change the coils?
