They're obviously not shifting the M2's, are they..? That's the second deal on them I have seen recently...

TBH, I just don't like the look of them... Regardless of whether or not I could afford one, I just wouldn't have one... Nor the M235, either...

Thankfully, I don't have that conundrum on my plate right now...

But as discussed in the other thread, it's pretty reasonable for low mileage people only. High mileage folk, forget it!

Still feels expensive to me, thick end of £700 a month for 8k miles in an M2, for it's a £500 a month car regardless of where they choose to put the retail price, the "was" part of the deal is a made up fantasy to try and show value.

Agree all with the comments, just it is the emergence of a more realistic deal for the a G series M.

Exactly this. If you want a good laugh, take a look at the official RRPs on BMWs (or Audis, or Mercs) websites.

Indeed, it was the deal not you I was criticizing.

I don't think there is any value out there apart from the second hand EVs I think a 3-4 year old ipace is sub 15k in the trade and that's an awful lot of car for the money.

£17k retail

These shitboxes dropped that low. Even 7 year old 440i and 430i hold their value better. Whoever brought brand new is in a whole lot of negative equity etc

Not a reflection of the car but At 91k miles it's got 9k miles of battery warranty left and god knows ? 30k of replacement cost. I suspect most ev including mine will go down like a lead balloon nearer to the 8yr/100k battery warranty limit. ICE cars don't have this steep fall effect

A friend of mine is looking for a 1 series diesel - I know, don't ask!?! A new M Sport 120d with metallic paint and no options at all is £38.5k 😂😂😂

I've taken the Mini in for minor warranty work and got a loaner.... 330e wagon, M sport, with a few extras. God knows what the list is but would I want it, no thanks...especially for over £50k!

M Sport, RWD, metallic paint, zero options - £50.7k. Ridiculous. And the unladen weight is 1900kg, FFS.

Having an iPace of my own and a 330e Touring loaner today, I know which one I prefer driving!

I only owe the balloon on mine so loss of value not my problem. Lets hope it carries on for another 2 years and then I can pick up another really good (EV) car next time dirt cheap....

why? because it doesnt go Brrm brrm and make a noise? Its no sports car - but then neither is a 540i. Comfortable, refined, adequately quick, discrete.... everything you probably need a daily to be. Oh, and it costs me peanuts for fuel... its a bit big for the parking spaces at the station but I just use the end of row ones as always!

Think it's pug ugly, so that's a big no no for a start, and yes because it doesn't go brum brum. Okay appreciate that it's likely quick and does the A to B in comfort but wouldn't say it's discrete. One thing it misses out on for me is the ability to drive a car, understand that my 540i is no sports car but I still have fun when driving it, sports+ manual gear selection and a nice B road is very enjoyable. The 5 can also revert to super comfort and economy if needed Oh, it has the ability for me not to plan my journey around charge points either and I'm not getting into a disussion on ice v's elec, but you asked the question Why.

I'd rather pay the extra for fuel than fall into the charging gamble game, mind you I am one of those who won't stand in a queue in a shop, petrol station, post office etc, I'll go elsewhere with no queue even if it means I pay a bit more.

You pay the money you take your choices.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I'd say my iPace is a really good looking car whereas any 5 series is not great, although the touring hides its bulk better. And of course on my daily in the crowded south east, there is no sports plus or manual changes needed, its just go a bit, stop a bit, go a bit, stop a bit....

Never struggled with charge, and normally charge around other stuff I am doing even on a journey. I find it bloody annoying I have to go out of my way to put fuel in the Mini!

And if I really want fun, go kart sized, manual box, roof down, and performance you can sort of use without risking life or licence just there...

Good job we are all different - but my two at todays prices are less than one 540i to buy and run!

(Discrete is relative - certainly is compared to an M5, RS4 and Mini Convertible!)

It’s a funny point about queueing. That was another thing that used to annoy me about petrol stations.

Views on how a car looks are very personal, and we all like a BMW here, but I’d personally definitely rather look at an iPace than a 5-series. But my favourite in-production BMW designs are the X7, 4GC/i4 and the iX in that order so go figure

On how engaging/fun a car is to drive - I’d put my EV way above my F36 440i with paddles. But perhaps your 540i has a front end that wants to turn into the corner. Lovely engine as ICE goes though. The throttle response in a Tesla, and no doubt other EVs, is a huge benefit to driving enjoyment. I’ve been reading for 4 decades about what an important factor that is, suddenly I have it in spades.

There’s very few direct comparisons to be had, if I had the time I’d drive a M440i GC and an i4 back to back to see how they compared.

Chaps, certainly not saying the 540i is a fantasic driver car no where as near as good as the 340i was with decent suspension, but as has been said before it's maybe 80% of the 3er for handling but then 80% of the 7er for comfort a bit of a good alrounder for what I do.

However, no matter what or how good the car is, if I didn't like the look of it I wouldn't buy it, and, subjectively I like the look of the G31 & dislike the look of the i pace, so thats me done on that.

Clocked an all electric MG mock SUV yesterday, sounded like it had a whining gearbox and looked as interesting as a window cill!
