BMW Remote App

Happy to learn that BMW Remote iPhone App worked with just BMW Assist/Enhanced BT, but no BMW Apps and no Navi. The App allows remote lock/unlock, lights, and horn. In close proximity, it provides precise GPS location of vehicle. You'll need your BMW Assist username and password. Not really sure how useful the App is . . . .

Did nothing special to get it working. Maybe just got lucky?

The App does have a delay of 30-60 sec from click to action. This means I can scare the dog or kids by hitting the button as we walk out of the movies and the car will honk just as we walk up to it. That's good for a laugh.

Oh, did call BMW Assist by pushing the SOS button to set up the account first. Excellent and friendly rep at the other end of the call thought to establish passwords for both me and my wife. And, repeatedly, asked how much I liked the new car.

You have supply the account e-mail address and password you used when you registered Assist.

Has your Assist account been activated?

The App works great. You can also use the built-in google maps page in the app and send destinations directly to your on-board nav; way cool.

You can also do the same thing from google maps on a PC by using the send function.

According to the App Store notes, basic features work only for vehicles manufactured after March 2008 and other features only for vehicles in later MYs. With an 08 E90, you may have missed the window for the App by a few months even if Assist is activated.

Absolutely needs android support. Android is now 59% of smartphones, I hope BMW realizes not everyone is enamored with all things Apple.

I believe the European version also allows activation of the in-car ventilation, hope they add this to the US version soon it would be great!

I switched from a Nexus to an iPhone 4S for this car. I can honestly say that the android is far superior.

A bit off topic but kinda car related so I added my 335 to eSurance and they sent me an email so i could provide a copy of the vehicle sticker. So naturally I hit reply and I could not find a way to attach the file. It turns out I had to go to the file directly and say send as email which is a new email. Then copy and past subject line and email address over. Android would have been reply attach file send.

So was it worth switching to the 4S for the car? I'm in the same boat, have an LTE Nexus, but am considering switching to a 4S since my 335i has the bmw apps package, and I'd really like to utilize it + the my remote app and the iphone/ipod music integration.

yeh think about it this way. You have a car with all these features but you cannot use it because of the phone you have. So I got the 4S and I jailbreak it. Made it a bit more flexible like android but Pandora alone is great.

by the way has anyone used their dvd/cd player? I have no idea if mine works never touched it

As someone who uses both, I have to say the big problem with Android is that it is so fragmented - so many versions on so many phones. That's not good for developers. Not saying one is better or worse than the other so please don't flame!

If you like ANdroid, and you're stuck w/ an iphone...jailbreak....you can make the iphone not suck. Note: it made mine more crash prone, but I reversed the JB and haven't tried again in a cpl updates....so they may have fixed that by now.
