Depo LCI inner taillight keeps popping out
I recently installed the Depo LCI taillights on my F30 and boy do they look good. The only problem was the inner lights were a pain in the ass to install and it seems like it's poorly held to the car (I blame BMW on this one). Anyhow, after a month one of them popped out and it was fairly easy to pop back in but it came out again, and I was wondering if anyone else is having the same issue. It seems like the foam that prevents water damage is really thick on the Depo lights when compared to OEM, so it was rather difficult to get it fully pressed down. Here's a pic for reference:

Are you sure that you have it in there properly? One side has a tab on it that slides behind some metal on the trunk, that is crucial when installing. The other side has the little plastic piece that gets screwed down. Judging by your picture, the tab didnt slide in properly behind the metal. Takes a little bit of force to get it in there but that would be my guess. Make sure the tab isnt cracked either...

Fast forward to about 11 minutes into my video. I kind of explain how it needs to be seated on the trunk...

I've been having the same issue, left side too, just haven't really bothered to take that trunk liner off to readjust it yet. Hopefully that fixes it whenever I get a chance to do it.

No, the fit is spot on and as I mentioned the foam is thicker than OEM, but might also be because the OEM has been sitting in there since 2012 and is now extremely compressed. The problem is that the way these lights are seated was poorly designed and could've used a better mechanism to achieve a more secure fit. But of course, that's just an opinion. |

It's the job of the aftermarket part to be designed correctly, not the other way around. |

Nice man! Hope the video helped! I bet it’ll be a simple fix after you pop off the interior trim pieces. Good luck!

Haven’t people with original lights also posted to say they’ve popped? Dealer replaced them in some cases so must be a design/fitment issue?

I didn't know this to be an issue, but judging by the design I'm not surprised. After taking out the OEM tail lights I was quite baffled by how they even managed to stay in. |

My non LCI OEM taillights did that. The dealer replaced my inner lights for free, there was a service bulletin out for it IIRC.

Ditto, both sides. Original part was superseded by another with much stronger tabs/design. And "yes", there is a TSB for the inner light.

also off/on topic, I purchased all the led upgraded bulbs for my depo head and tail lights from USR , the reverse light, front amber turn signals are flickering/flashing when I turn on the car. I haven't coded yet so that could possibly be the solution and fix. anything helps. |

You really have to check the alignment and the lines during installation. I bought OEM LCI tails and even they required a lot of muscling and checking to make sure they're lined up properly.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone has any tips/hacks for keeping the inner tail lights from popping out as mine still does this once in a while. And before anyone comments: yes, I am 10000% positive they are seated correctly. This has been a known issue even with stock tail lights. Take apart one of these things and you'll realize that the design is questionable, to say the least.
