IOS 13 & Carplay

With the a WWDC announcement yesterday announcing the new carplay interface it brings a concern.

It seems the interface is designed for cars with a widescreen display. While my 2018 330i does have a widescreen display the interface will not utilize the right side of the display while using carplay.

This will result in a very squeezed screen.

I am hoping BMW will upgrade iDrive for carplay to use the whole screen. I am under the impression the G20's utilizes the entire screen.

As pointed out in another post, it looks like this is iOS specific role to present the new interface regardless of what year or model used

Correct but it will take modification of the iDrive software to present the carplay interface utilizing the entire screen.

Hopefully BMW plans on doing a update..

If you are referring to widescreen option on the existing Carplay, I believe it is possible via coding with cars made after March 2018.

Notice how the "split screen" takes up probably 30% of the screen which makes carplay look very compressed in my opinion.

It's pretty interesting how the new CarPlay layout is a similar concept as the iDrive 7 home pages... I wonder if Apple took a page out of BMW lol

I'm running iOS 13 beta with CarPlay on 2017 F30. When on main screen with widgets, I find the screen looks compressed and too small.

I'm waiting to code my car to CarPlay full screen and hope it should look better with iOS 13.

Will share screenshot tomorrow.

Running into issue with getting CarPlay to full screen when coding via RJ45, "no vehicle found". Troubleshooting...

But here is screen without CarPlay full screen (stock) and iOS13.

Will update once I have CarPlay full screen working.

That's a screenshot of the Pandora app...not the native Apple Music app.

I prefer full screen over the split. CarPlay Fullsceeen with iOS13 looks better on f30. Maybe on g20 and iOS 13, split might be okay, as the screen are bigger.

I believe only Maps as of now, as I don't see option to set to google maps. You can use Siri shortcut to call any CarPlay apps when connected to CarPlay. That app will be brought to focus.

I believe CarPlay was an option in 2017 f30 and newer. It was first introduced in 2016 5 series.

You might be able to get it retrofit.. I recall seeing a few posts..
