I've been reading this thread from the beginning and on the verge of getting one from Avin in the USA. I have previously had the Android 4.4 version in my 2015 125D and it worked well and I even managed to get some sort of decent sound from the Android side of things by playing with the equaliser.

How far have they come with the newest version regarding speed of the system, mine was painfully slow and if I had more than a few apps open it would grind to a halt. I want it more for aesthetics on the dash and Sygic, Spotify etc.

The new 8.1 android is a real improvement compare to the old 4.4

Well, there is many bugs, not all identified, and support is nearly inexistant. Bu when it works well, get a 10,25" screen is so much better lol.

Hey guys, I just updated my 7.1 unit with the last software (01 05 2019), cartype.xml and factory.xml too.

I worked well for 2 days, but now when I launch the car, I got "No signal" issue...
I can go to bmw side by pressing the "park distance" button and, of course, that come back to No Signal when i'm driving.

Do you know how to factory reset the unit when it's stuck like that?

I just managed to find the problem.
I press start button without start engine, the screen booted fine... I'm sure I have a problem with ADAS app, because I don't have any camera and the app is looking for it and cause error.

I am grateful I found this site, there is no one around me that I can get help. I recently purchasedan aftermarket unit for my x1 E84 it is a 10.25 Android 7.1.1 unit that I am not sure about the brand. I have similar problems to some of the post that I couldn't solve myself. MCU version says CIC but the screen has an NBT plug, my car did not have original screen so I think does not matter but could it be the cause of some of the problems? The red bumper could be something to do with the hood. Is there a sensor for the hood that indicates it is closed?

One more question,

The place I purchased my unit refuse to tell me the brand of the device. Yes it is stupid but this is Turkey, is there a way to learn this from the device?

They also told me there is no way to upgrade the android version ever, is that true so can't I update this unit to 8.0 for example?

My unit 8.1 cic does not start this stuck in without signal. I've reset it with a clip and nothing.

I'm not sure if someone has asked this yet or not, I'm looking to purchase the unit and back up camera how does the unit/camera know when the cars in reverse is there a wire to splice into to make it functional or is it apart of the supplied harness?

It is a headache. Even version 8.1 does not work well. It is not compatible with Android auto, although you can download it from Aptoide and depending on the model of the car it gives one problem or another. The screen of course is of lower quality than the original and the software is not well finished. They are products that are made, they are sold and if it goes wrong you already manage your own. I doubt that any supplier does updates for these products, because I do not think that they are going to modify the codes, since they would have to re-program it whole and I do not think they are computer programing, they are only distributors or seller. In my opinion, it is a headache.

So I added the 8.8 and a backup camera... I have had issues with the sound, after putting the car in reverse and back to drive... The volume will drop about 70% and sound quality goes down also... I can fix it by putting it back in reverse and then drive again, but its pretty annoying..

Was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue?

Also is anyone using a alternative music app? I have been using poweramp, but the idrive wheel does not work with it, was wondering if anyone found a player that will work with the control knob, or a way to get the unit to use the knob in other apps that did not come preloaded?
