With the exception of the cro magnon headlight front end and the "who let Bangle back?" hodge-podge of flame-surfaced interior styling, my vote is that this is a "meh" improvement over the E90.
As discussed in earlier posts, the cockpit details appear to make the car more driver oriented than the E90, which is not hard to do. My E46's interior was nicer IMO, but the new interior reeks of a Japanese-French-German love triangle design gone horrible wrong. Ciao, Jeff |

A Beluga or Dolphin are nice animals, but it does not mean I want my car to have a front or profile look like them. Most hated the hump nose of the Lexus IS-F & what does BMW deliver? Something worse! ![]() |

Having read the complaints and slept on it, here's my take:
Bonnet opening line. I think the reason is probably aerodynamics, manufacturing cost. If it bugs you a lot, probably a dark car is a solution.. Rear end SO much better... come on, who will argue against this? And good rear is a lot. Steering wheel on Msport. To me a tiny airbag solution means i can adjust the steering wheel more and see the dash better. The scrolling thingies are wierd though but may be they are actually easier to use? Z4 front end I think it works fine and adds a bit more focus to the front. Blacked out grilles no doubt will sort this very easily and again on darker car it is hardly noticable. I suggest that little grill is just black color, lets hope it changeable. I hate all the bling chrome though. Wheel sizes. Wheels gone up in size (diameter) half an inch or so. This means 19in is the old 18in. With car size unchanged largely, this means better looking proportions and balance. However, the standard cars are now on 7.5 wide rim ---- from 8 in past on 17in rims. This is wierd, tyres look skinny now. Agan, must be done for fuel efficency but I wonder if handling is sacrificed a bit. It must look more revolutionary than evolutionary. It can't be becuause 3rd of their sales comes from this car. The 2% modding crowd has nothing on the 98% buying public, a lot of which is women and have own tastes. So it's unrealistic to expect this thing to look radical, ever. The E90 was radical and so many people hated it and praised the E46 (some still do on this very forum!). You can't please anybody. Interior color accents I just hope they're optional. Looks tacky, agree with most. Options list. Look what's standard now - in US you dont get it but in Europe I sure can appreciate that don't have to pay extra for cruise control for example. It has HUD - a really cool and safety feature. ALL cars have Idrive - ALL! Yes, some won't have the 3000 USD navigation (stupid price!) but you can get all the car options controls already on screen. Nice. The engine - look at 328i - what's the point of 335? It's half a sec quicker and so much more inefficient. The figures on 320d are really outstanding, that's an everyday car with performance in city to embarrass bigger engines. Driving. Hard to say obviously but I expect one thing to be much better - ride comfort on sh.tty roads. And for that alone this car may be enough of a reason to upgrade. The E90 is great all in all, but its suspension setup is crap for anything but perfect roads. It tramlines like a b.tch, it's small wheels and suspension settings don't cope well with potholes, it can't accept bigger wheels because rolling diameter is small, etc. BIRDs and Alpina and few others spend 4000USD or whatever to make it ride properly with new suspension, anti roll bars, control arms from M3 etc. This is stupid and should not be necessary. Just like F01 and F10 ride much better on big wheels, I'm sure the F30 will stand out in that respect.

Looking at the new dash closely and I'm disappointed. How is this any different in term of texture and look compare to the 08-11 Merc C class? Unless cost saving is at play, horrible! I have a feeling if you dont get the full leather package, the interior will look cheap.

For the most part I agree with the last post by Research.
View from the front and rear looks very nice, more agressive than E90. To me the side view looks like an E90 with an F10 nose slapped on...just a little too angular for me, I think getting the m sport version would fix that gripe...but, all in all I like it. Doh, except for the little plates on the front fenders that denote "sport", "modern", and "luxury" That just looks tacky to me. As for the interior, As much as I use the i-drive nav/info screen, having a pop up screen just makes it seem like the nav screen is an afterthought. I know a lot of people don't like the double hump, but I think it's better than the out of place pop up. The way the dash flows down at an angle on the passenger side looks terrible in pictures...maybe its better in person. That textured wood looks like it belongs in a childs play pen. I do like the overall layout of the instrument panel and center console, and I do like all the new features. Just my .02 to add to everyone elses. |

The exterior of the car is beautiful!
![]() Just look at the area around the gear lever. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...?t=352&page=11 and then compare it to the new one. It seems that messy equals luxury...... More buttons must be better. A simple quality upgrade for the E90 interior or a transplant of the F10 interior would been perfect. Now we are left with a interior that belongs in a 1 series. The new 3 is indeed (1+5)/2=3 (exterior from the 5 and interior from the 1 which results in a stillish looking car with a boy racer interior). I think many E60/E61 owners looked forward to this car because the new F10 is a little on the heavy side but the interior is such a disappointment. Last edited by Ulrikgm; 10-15-2011 at 08:41 AM.. |

Exterior looks great.
Not a fan of the interior. Looks like a Honda Civic. I hope the interior will be upgraded in the upcoming Coupe/Convertible.

Assuming the Coupe/Convertible is badged 4 Series. I would guess that the styling picks up 6-Series design cues. And more money
