Obd Bluetooth adapter for beemer code.

Hi guys,

I'm wanting to download beeme code for my 16 plate 435d. Do I need to back up normal ECU incase I mess up coding/code something wrong or the car throws a wobble?

Also i have the tourqe pro bloothooth adapter small blue one was about £5 I'll attach a picture will this be fine to use will it be compatable or do I need to order a specific one?

And will my stage 1 map be safe.

Cheers.

Bimmercode requires you to have one of their chosen adaptors, so yours won't work.

https://bimmercode.app/adapters/

That's the list of adapters. Last month I bought the icar Pro https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071D8SY...302_E_DDE_dt_1

It says no longer recommended on the bimmercode site, but I used it to code a bunch of stuff on my 16 plate 330d.

As for backups, I believe the app does it automatically.

BimmerCode does a backup before coding to the device you run it on.
And your map is safe. As far as I know it cannot read/write to ECU.

Perfect cheers lads, do you know the active sound option does this only apply to cars fitted with an active sound exhaust or can you change the sound without one I understand it comes threw the speakers but always wondered if it only works with active exhaust fitted.

Active Sound design module(ASD) Can be coded with bimmer code. On/off and if firmware on module is before 04/2015 you can change the sound from it. If the firmware is newer you cannot change the sound.
ASD is the one making fake engine sound from the speakers.
As far as I know, Active sound from the exhaust is only by retrofitting M performance exhaust or 3'rd party products on the 3/4 series.

I thought that might be the case. I dont want to fit an after market active sound, considered the cobra dual 440i look but this is just for looks. How do you know what firmware you have and/or what's the date of said firmware?

I think you can see version of current firmware by using one of the full size coding tools. I don't think it's possible using bimmer code.

Funny, I have been looking at Cobra too.
Do you have any idea of the quality of Cobra products?

Not necessarily. They seem to have had a falling out with VGate and made those no longer compatible, but if one has an adapter on hand it's worth trying it.

I suppose it's worth a punt, but 99% sure it won't work. To clarify, I bought a VGate one because it was way cheaper than the other ones, even though it said not supported. Turned out to be fine. Think it's pretty cheeky of the dev to claim it's no longer supported just because of a fallout.

The one OP has looks to be some generic OBD adapter.

I bought a VGate last April, when it was still on the Bimmercode approved list. When I got around to using Bimmercode in August it wouldn't work with the VGate, giving me a message that the VGate was incompatible. It then pointed me to Veepeak, even including a discount coupon code. That told me that Bimmercode was getting a kickback from Veepeak, but VGate wouldn't play ball, and they rendered VGate incompatible as a result. I can't say if other non-recommended adapters will work, but there's nothing to lose in trying it.

Really? Bizarre. Mine didn't play ball at first but I had to try connecting twice and it worked fine. This was in Feb 2020. Successfully coded a bunch of stuff onto mine. Odd that yours didn't work

It didn't work, and it wasn't a connection issue. It had to connect to tell me that it was not a compatible dongle and that I had to get one that was.

I'll see if I can do some more digging on an easier way. Is is a case if vehicles made before a certain date has one version and after a certain date had a newer incomparable version. And is there no way bmw in any service would update even the old firmware to the new. I'm just thinking out loud here.

As for the cobra tbh I've never had a problem with them I had there system fitted to my mk2 RS and was amazing couldn't fault it. Also there customer service was amazing always went out there way to help even talked about costom work they were open to it so yh my experience has always being good.

Cheers

Can confirm. JUST used vgate icar pro to quickly and seamlessly code my 2013 328i with bimmercode. It definitely still works as an adapter.
