Trade-in price nonsense

Just for fun, really. Essentially Mrs R has said she's happy to have something lesser than the X5 as it's just being used for school runs and clubs. So the plan is to chop that down to a Q3, maybe an X3, but a good used model paid outright.

That leaves the larger 'budget' for me to finally get into an M-car. Some incredible prices on M4s at the moment (used sub 10k miles).

Anyhow. I knew that I was doing it early in terms of how long I've had the X5 but thought I'd start light enquiries as if the dealer wants to do a deal, they'll always find a way.

But... April 2018 X5, 22k miles, not a blemish, as new condition: 28k.

Politely told him to f*** off, obviously. He came back and said they have to clear 5k to make it worthwhile, even if am buying another from them (they have 3 M4s that fit the bill so...).

Anyway, not in a rush to make the change so won't be getting emotional drawn into it, but it did make me laugh.

Try Sid Singh at north Oxford BMW. I recently sold him my x50d. Much better than any other part ex I was offered and he bought it outright.

Seconded. Sid bought my 440i. Top bloke, no messing around. (He won the bidding on Tootle for my car).

This is a constant annoyance and a good reason to go for a lease IMO. Personally cannot be bothered with the hassle of dealing with car dealers.

Agree. I think next time this is the option I'll go for. Correct mileage and lease fully maintained.

I used a chap who sources directly for the big dealer groups, puts them in touch, they look and buy if interested... can’t think where I got his number from MashinBenzin

ETA - sure you want an M4, @ROB? I can nip over and give you a run in my car if you want to try it..

I sold my 340 last year through "tootle", where I tapped into specialist dealers actually looking for the car... but I understand that site has gone now...

Are there any other similar sites...?

I have been searching on M5s as well... some good options out there. And it'd be rude to decline your invitation...

Thanks to everyone else with pointers on contacts. It's a shame the nonsense process has to be followed but at least I'm in no rush and not on a whim. If it doesn't get done anytime soon then so be it.

My car owes about exactly what it'd retail at. So, yes they need to make profit, but you can see where there's a deal to be done. Or at least I can. But they've just basically killed off any hope of a logical discussion. I guess that's why I went from Specialist Cars to Cooper to Lancaster - they all take it in turns to talk themselves out of deals.

Motorway gave me a decent price for the F30. Didn't go through with it but the whole process was pretty smooth . Had to pull out at the last minute as my potential purchase fell through.

Guess they thought the draw of an m4 was enough to make you agree to a silly price.
I used tootle for my 340 and my wifes old car and assuming the others are similar you can negotiate their offer upwards. Far far more than what I would have got from a dealer and wbac level offers.

Motorway offered me quite a poor price recently for my F30 - a lot lower WBAC. I had thought that they were a Tootle type site, but the price was instant (and crap!).

Anyone know if there is a Tootle equivalent out there?

Sounds sensible, let me know when you fancy a try. Bring your licence.... 😉

Do you own the car or is it on finance? Have you considered a vt?

It sort of is, but then they do a bit more as well. If they spot your car and think it's attractive they'll call you and ask if you want them to start ringing BMW dealers direct for you to get a better price. From that I had direct contact with a couple of dealers and better offers.

How on earth does that help if like the OP you want to end your deal early, surely it makes it harder, not easier?

If you get to the end, the process is identical if you want it to be, you can just hand back on a lease or a pcp.

The only advantage I can see is price, sometimes lease is cheaper, sometimes pcp is, so in my opinion, just go with whatever the best deal is for the car you want.

But all you'd do is lease over a shorter term - 24 months say

Thats odd as I didn't get a price from them for about 48 hrs even then they told me to wait as they looked for better prices, so anything but instant. The price was £1500 more than WBAC on a £25k valuation.

All of the communication was done personally with a contact through whatsapp. I didn't speak with any dealers direct.

The pain was uploading the myriad of pictures. I guess they gauge whats in demand and if its worth putting a bit of work into.
