2018 440i GC iDrive randomly resetting

Hey guys! I leased a 7/2017 build 440i GC and I've pretty much loved the transition from my 2015 M235i so far. There are a number of obvious differences with pros and cons of each but overall I can say I am pleased with the change.

My iDrive has shut itself off and reset on its own 3 times now and I'm not sure of the cause. I am taking it in next week to get looked at but I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. It's as if someone pushed a reset button on a computer if our systems had that.

I have iDrive 6.0 I think. I also have had an iPhone X plugged in through USB each time. I have turned off Apple CarPlay since I decided I don't like it that much and I have turned off audio through Bluetooth so it only comes through my USB charging cable. Phone functions via Bluetooth are still enabled.

Has happened to my car once. The car is a little over one month old now with just over 500 miles on it. Happened probably three weeks ago. Did not happen again since.

Happened on mine once as well. The music stopped playing, then the screen turned off and reset itself. Mine was also a 7/17 build.

It's happened twice on my 2018 340i. I just hit 1000 miles on the odometer.

Mine was built 08/2017.

Not to hijack this thread but does anyone has M (air re-circulation) mode not lasting for more than a couple of minutes or maybe seconds?

We had this issue with our 2015 328 and it was fixed by a software update.
Now our 2018 has the same issue. You press 'M' button and in a little while it changes to 'A'.

It's your iphone X. I've had the same problem in my M3. I updated my ios and it stopped happening.

I thought it might be the iPhone X but I just checked my iOS and I am up to date. 11.2.1

Nothing has reset on the car since it did it twice on Tuesday. I have noticed my iDrive startup screen taking a while lately though too before I get the warning page.

Try unpairing it on both your idrive and your iPhone.

Just throwing it out there but I have a Galaxy S7. Can't remember the last time I updated it but not limited to iOS if that is the cause of the issue.

That vid is simply updating the tel and media software and not the overall idrive.

Not the same but my F30 335i started doing this and the dealer updated the idrive software and I haven’t seen it since.

For the following models, F22, F23, F30, F30H, F31, F32, F33, F34, F36, F80, F82, F83:

I-Level software should be F020-15-11-505 or higher.

Just to give an update, I dropped off my car at the dealer on Thursday and got a call back yesterday. They said that they have to "create a case with BMW..." so they're keeping my car a little longer.

Definitely not phone related. I have GS7. My I Drive restarted twice in a 10 minute succession. That only happened one time in 3 weeks I have had it. Car built 09/2017 in Munich.

I wouldn't be so sure. It's impossible to test software with every possible device on the market that might be used with it. All you can be sure of is that if it happens when there's no phone in play that it's not a phone in that instance.

I have a 2018 F36 and I've had a random reset twice now (and no iPhone).

The last time was particularly annoying as the FM radio sensitivity took a real dump when it came back up- it could only pick up a few stations. It would get better then worse, but finally stabilized by the next day.

This FM receiver is one of the more sensitive that I've had in a vehicle. I really was concerned. Will continue to monitor...

i have a f36 440 with idrive 6 and i had the same problem as the OP and many others here. i took it to the dealer and the they updated the firmware of the idrive and solve the problem .

Just wanted to give an update. Picked up the car this am and was told it was fixed through a software update after they were able to recreate the issue. I'm attaching the service record if anyone is interested. Fingers crossed that it's fixed now. They never gave an explanation why though.
