Steering goes very stiff, drivetrain malfunction warning

When driving my 2014 f30, sometimes the steering becomes so stiff, i have to stop and turn the engine on and off, also yesterday i got a warning 'drivetrain malfunction drive with caution' or something along those lines, again everything was normal when i turned it on and off, im wondering if anyone has any insight into this ?

Perhaps check your voltage, both with the car off and on. Should be around 12.5 off and 14.x on. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe your alt is having issues...maybe?

Check your belts also...could you have gotten coolant or oil on them somehow?

I'd read here of some leak (maybe ofhg) that leads to a slippery belt...which would lead to a weak alt and thus weak steering.

Just guesses...good luck!
