Anyone 50+ had their second jab brought forward?

Just interested how they are going about doing this now that they are aiming to get 50+ to have their second doses after 8 weeks. I had my first jab almost 8 weeks ago with the second booked for just over 4 weeks from now.

Has anyone been contacted as a result of Friday's announcement to get the second jab sooner?

Yep, I was contacted over the weekend. My second is booked for two weeks on Wednesday and given my diary doesnt allow me to go this week (opening week!) I am not going to bother changing it for the sake of less than 10 days....

Yes, my 2nd jab was due on 1st June but it's now tomorrow morning! I received a text yesterday from the NHS inviting me to bring my 2nd jab forward so I just went on the website and managed my booking (which in practice meant cancelling the one scheduled for 1st June and then re-booking a new one).

All very easy but, as the 2nd jab will now be at a different venue from the first, I'm just hoping when I get there they're using the same vaccine (AZ) - I know they were looking at the feasibility of mixing vaccines for 1st and 2nd jabs but I'm not sure that's been approved as yet?!

Agree it will be interesting to see how they intend to do this. I had my first jab on 27th March via my GP rather than NHS, and to this point still haven't been given a date for my second jab. Given that's been 7 weeks, and I turned 50 in the intervening period, I'm thinking they will be doing well to sort me out a 2nd jab in the next couple of weeks!

From the replies so far, sounds like they're going through in age order from late 50s downwards, which seems sensible. I assume most 60+ will have had both already.

I'm 51 - we youngsters have to wait our turn!

No jab mixing at this stage - you get what you had before.

I thought even if you'd had your first through the GP you could still go via the NHS website to book your second. Might be worth a try and see what dates you get offered.

I'm not sure how it's working! A friend of mine is older than me (I'm 56, she's early 60's) but she hasn't had any notification even though her husband - who's a similar age to her - has!

To be honest, though, I suspect you could go onto the NHS website and manage your booking even if you haven't received a text inviting you to do so. It all seems to be driven off your NHS number and date of birth so based on those you'd think the system should know whether you're eligible to bring your 2nd jab forward?

My local GP surgery rang me for my 1st jab. I booked my 2nd jab via the NHS website.

I had my 1st jab on the 17th of March and was due my 2nd Astra Zeneca jab on the 2nd of June which would have been 11 weeks
however NHS Scotland invite for 2nd AZ jab for Thursday 20th May has arrived

my 32 year old daughter has now had her first Pfizer jab, she lives in Kirkwall, Orkney and the northern islands are close to being 90% 1st vaccination for 18 and overs

Hoping that any side effects will be no worse than 1st jab, being the wrong side of 60 I don’t have any concerns about AZ issues......

Booked both 1st and 2nd jabs online. I got a text message on Sunday morning offering me the chance to bring it forward by either going online or ringing up.

Yep, exactly the same with me! But as I say, if you're over 50 I suspect you could go online (or phone up) and bring your 2nd jab forward even if you haven't received a text inviting you to do so.

There seems to be a view that drinking plenty of water and taking paracetamol helps to avoid the worst of the side effects so I'll be trying that tomorrow. The side effects from my first jab didn't last too long (less than 24 hours) but I'd rather avoid - or at least minimise - a repeat if at all possible!

Managed to get mine a week earlier- next Friday lunchtime. Out on the ale that same evening, hopefully it won't be a write off as didn't fair to well after the first jab.

I'm in the 50+ group and had my first jab on 5th March.

Received a txt from my GP practice last week and will be having my second on Wednesday. 10.5 weeks between jabs.

Getting my 2nd on Wednesday as originally planned. Different venue due to the farcical booking system!
We have 2 centres within 10 miles - no options to go there.
Next nearest didn't have availability for the 2nd jab date, so decided to do a 75 mile round trip to get the first one (with the good lady).
Strangely, with going to this other venue for the first, this allowed dates at the closer venue that weren't available if we had had the first there!

You’re spot on here - despite hearing nothing, I went into my booking, cancelled the mid-June appointment and it offered me one this Sunday. Cheers!

Just by way of an update, Mrs JNW1 and I had our 2nd jabs on Tuesday morning as planned and both of us had no side effects whatsoever this time. I daresay the paracetamol and keeping hydrated might have helped but regardless it was nice to avoid the 18 hours of feeling ropey that I experienced after my 1st jab!

And a significant plus of the different location was we had nice to drive out towards the Dales rather than having to endure the traffic around York!
