I went f31 330xd to m140i, managed 18 months before it had to go, was on adaptive suspension but it was still to harsh. Went back to an f30 335d, and got to be honest, only thing I miss is the engine/noise, 335 is just a much better all round car for me, and with the remap is an animal, that at least can get its power down even in winter!

I always think it's very strange that you get 30 mins in a car and that is supposed to help you decide to spuff tens of thousands of pounds.

I would travel if I 100% knew I wanted the car, I just don't like wasting people's time, or for that matter, my own, so I don't fancy driving large distances just to realise it's not for me. Ideally I'll try and find some kind soul local who will let me have a go to make the final decision once lockdown relaxes. Quote:
Completely understand your thoughts towards the 335d. I do think I'll miss xDrive, which is where a lot of my hesitation comes from. And I *adore* the torque. If only the engine was more refined it'd be absolutely perfect. |

How do use your car - as a commute or just the odd trip?
The odd trip the m140 would be fine - but as you have no kids i would get a 240 just from a styling perspective (since you already have a coupe) Personally if i wanted a small fast commuter car i would go Audi S3, or even the merc A35…. Dont sound as nice but an easier daily package. I recently test drove a few audi’s all from main dealers - wanted a deposit but only £100 which was refundable - as you go on your own. |

Btw, I didn’t get the HK because it wasn’t worth the option cost, no logic 7 amp in the 1er, so I went advanced audio and was more than good enough for me, not sure I’d have been happy with the base audio though....

We don't have kids, but do have a dog, so anything without a practical boot is out.
Otherwise M2 Comp would be the one. I did look at an M5 and figured I could get another car for doggo... but ugh, the thought of the expense made my eyes water. Plus an M5 is too big, and far more car than I ever need. |

Mind you, unless it's a relatively small dog I'd say an M140i possibly isn't ideal either as from what I recall the boot in those isn't especially large? Two dogs is one of the main reasons I have a Touring so if you fancy the B58 engine - and would also like to retain X-Drive - I can highly recommend the G21 M340i! |

I'd love to have an M340i Touring, but they're more than I want to be paying for a car atm, used or new. |

It all comes down to how you are going to use the car, the B58 is a great engine, but you are used to xdrive and getting the power down, and the M140i would need a bit of money on suspension and diff to tame it and make it more driveable I'd buy a late petrol S4 Avant, but i am a bit biased and my driving is more point and squirt than on the limit cornering. Dog loves the space though..... |
