Different cars.

The M135i and M235i were always a side project FWD mini platform.

The new G42 is the actual successor to the F22 lineage.... and carries over the B58 etc etc.

Looks mega to me and the night storm Metalic or whatever it's called looks unreal, not even an M colour!!! It's on the M240i !!!

Shaping up very nicely.

So a slightly smaller 3 door 3er.
Doubtless will be a great car and hopefully won't look like the current 2 series (or 4 series front end).
Anyway another model with the b58 in so all good.

Maybe but that will be the 1er platform that is FWD based.

Confused? So is everyone when I say maybe the only thought is it's the same M135i platform I had but perhaps with a little more power via hybrid.

However that night then create carnage as there could be an M140i and would there be a 2GC M140i easily confused with the original post new G42 M240i.

I think we just need less complexity and models but my closing comment. I love how this G42 is shaping up and new G87 M2 too.

TBF the looks have been leaved for some 9 months or so I'd say. Single lens front light, reasonable kidneys, rear similar to current 2er so not many surprises coming.

Finally a new BMW that i'm excited about!!

I had a 435d - purely as there was no Xdrive 440i. Now we have the G series with Xdrive - i dont want one from a styling perspective!

if this new M240 is larger and interior wise is equipped better (so HUD is an option) sounds ideal to me.

If they did a similar thing on the new 1er (with perhaps a design change as well...) I'd throw all my money at it.

If I didn't need practicality I'd have this new 240i instead!

With cars getting larger with every iteration, this may not be so small.
Now if it was in GC form….

The front looks ok - the rear seems odd - the rear lights look nothing like recent BMW signature lights- if anything those are quite bulky - similar to the E82 coupe.

If it was F32 size (or slightly smaller) it woud be perfect for me!

No one believed it back in the day and here we are.

Thus if that's the real deal, looks like a silver finally makes the roster again. I can't see past that incredible purple. Would have that in a heartbeat! What a way to see out the ICEage!

i see you have changed your avatar - take it the order is placed already then...

Have to say I am not a coupe man, but I reckon I could be interested in that if the interior is up to standard....

Great car but they are all being made in Mexico.

I do find it slightly amusing that the one car of the 1/2 series that remains on a rwd platform is the coupe that is by definition tightest on space.

if they were doing a touring version made in Germany I would be very interested

Isn't the RWD 2-series primarily for the 'demand' of the American market?

Are we even getting it here in the UK, requiring a RHD build?

This autocar articles even specifies the engines the UK due to get

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...ototype-review

"Included in the UK launch line-up is the 220i and 220d as well as the 230i and the M240i xDrive driven here. A mid-range 225i is also planned for selected markets, but it remains unclear whether it will be sold here."

Not keen on the fake exhaust surrounds but that's become a general trend.

Other than that, looks alright. I can't wait for the proper reveal.

Autoexpress have some pics of it. I assume the first pic is a render but if it comes out like that in the flesh then I think it looks pretty good.

ETA: Exhausts look real on the spy shots

The nearest car to the E21 and E30 3 series they have produced for some time, a modern-day 323i

Engine will have the same power output as the M440i, and thats a quick car.

This will make this new M240i even quicker as it *should* be lighter (unless BMW cock it up like they did with the M2 Comp making it virtually the same weight as the M4).

Not often they make the "lesser" model quicker than the equivalent big brother. Surprised they wont put a detuned B58 in it.

Unlikely Pete and no manual other than an M2 variant I'd expect.
