That is an odd one. I could fall for the price but the car is ... well it's ok, it's got a rugged charm to it.

Which is kind of what I think I like about it. Its simple, a bit rugged and something I wouldn't care having the kids crawling around with muddy clothes/boots/general kids' mess.

Perhaps I just crave a simpler life with no stressing about the kids ruining my stuff

I've fallen for the Dacia Duster. No idea what they're like to live with but I'm liking the simplicity of it, the design isn't half bad, it just seems a simple, cheerful thing and I love it.

I feel a sense of shame about admitting I like it

Oh. And then there's the Top Gear Magazine "Knuckle Duster" which has an air of cool about it
It was on my (long) list to replace the old CRV as it was a very similar car. I like them, they're honest and non-pretentious and they're actually pretty capable on dirt tracks/snow etc. The newer ones are actually pretty comfortable too. Not sporty, just comfortable and pleasant to drive.

I agree, there's something unburstably agricultural about them which I like. I can see myself in a battered old 4WD one living in a wee butt & ben in the countryside when I retire, a mucky runaround filled with mud from the dogs and grandkid's mucky boots & gear.

And an M2 in the shed......

Or this........

https://petrolblog.com/2014/08/bange...issan-prairie/

My old man sold his Rover Vitesse for one of these, in exactly this colour combo. The reason given was that we had a feckin' HUGE Newfoundland that couldn't easily get in and out of the Rover, but it became forever known as The Popemobile. Went from wanting to borrow his car to buying my own to avoid being seen in this. Fast forward a few years and with a young family I can see the appeal - it kind of grows on you... like fungus...

He did eventually redeem himself by buying a Subaru Legacy which was a proper 'countryside' estate. I don't think he washed it for about 5 years though, or cleaned it inside. Ever.

I like it too, particularly the understated ruggedness- pretty much the opposite of the LR Evoque. Seems there are quite a few of us who think along similar lines.

If it could only go through water I’d probably get an old one to join the ‘fleet’.

agreed, pics required... another Yeti fan here.....

I liked when Skoda ploughed a lone furrow and its cars were more distinct. The latest ones are more badge engineered clones and the worse for it.... (although often better looking than their VW brethren..)

I think someone on here was cross shopping a Fabia and an 8 series...

I don't know about it being a car crush, as such, but I have long wondered what would be the best combination of fun and anonymity... So, something you can go out and have fun in, say up on the Moors by me, but does not draw any attention otherwise...

I was hoping the Golf GTI would be but it is not at all anonymous... even if you drive it casually...

I guess something like a GTI but with normal trim levels and only the go faster bits underneath... A real Q car...

Brilliant, look forward to the pics. Such a shame that Skoda walked away from their own vision (or perhaps were forced to).

Q cars are a tough call these days. We are at the other end of the scale where every average model has to come dressed with the aggressive accoutrements of the sporting end of the range. Hard to pick where the modern day 500E exists.

Then again, the GTI has always stood out from the hatchback herd. If anything, it's slightly more Q-car these days, thanks to its quad piped brother. I guess the badge carries so much weight amongst those that know, that it can never be a Q-car.

Back to my first paragraph, I guess that's actually where the Q cars exist. In a range like BMW's or Audi's where every model is M-sported or S-Lined, then the Q-car is the 40i/S model in debadged form.

Does the fact that every other car is an M Sport or an S line mean that the real Ms and S / RSs are the Q cars.... Def think my chav white with black wheels reps special A4 estate surprises a few people

The truth is that these days almost everything is fast compared to the old days.... so maybe everything is a Q car versus the supercars of the 70s or 80s....

The GTI looks like a performance Golf… so it's not really a Q car… I imagine my Q car as like having the capability of a type R but looking like an SE… unless you look really closely..

BMW's etc would rule themselves out as the brand is an aspirational one, so even 318's stand out… (plus, my 340 never felt like a car I could go have fun with up on the Moors)…

An Escort RS 1800 (back in my younger days) did not really look too much different to an Escort Pop… but it was…

Maybe it is only custom built cars now..?

Not sure my half-handed photo technique helped, including mainly floor in the frame. Shopping in phone hand, daughter hauling at the other
