I've found being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes has done wonders for my waistline. I've lost 4 stone since October.

I was eating a John West tuna pasta thing as a snack when I read this. Felt disgusted but hence wondered if tuna itself unless I had been exposed to it would have counted as a disgusting food. Had to bin the snack. had toast crisps and chilli coated peanuts for dinner nothing offensive about those.

After his cancer treatment a number of years ago my dad was pre-diabetic because of the weight gain. He managed to go from nearly 100kg to under 70kg to reverse the pre-diabetes in maybe 9 months? He did it by a combination of cutting out pretty much all carbs, certainly all processed carbs, alcohol and then blending it with Michael Moseley's 5/2 diet, and of course exercise, although the diet is the big one. It definitely takes willpower but it is entirely possible to do it without recourse to taking medication like statins. For a man who likes beer, cider and biscuits (i.e. me too) I think you're SOL on keeping the two sides of that coin facing in the same direction! That's not to say you can't enjoy biscuits and beer in the future, but if you're borderline diabetic there's a shift change required to reverse that before you can really consider going back to eating stuff like that regularly.

It's the same sort of thing as the studies which say red meat's bad for you, where the study is sponsored and carried out by lifelong vegan activists and focuses on processed red meat containing nitrites as preservatives (good for preventing botulism, bad for human health, albeit not as bad as botulism is), or the egg studies which simply take any processed food containing eggs (including McDonalds Egg McMuffins). |

Tbh, ive slowed down, and started eating more sugary/salty foods lately. I think I took it to the extreme when I was diagnosed. Im still keeping track of my sugars etc though.

- 5 small meals a day - Lean proteins, moderate amounts of carbs - Everything after dinner is pure protein/fat - no junk food/alcohol - approx 500kcal below maintenance combined with HIIT and heavy weight training, I get lean every time.

Ennoch & Abzynthe,
So all I need is will power to not consume foods that are bad for me and exercise - I'm doomed. Ok I rejoined a gym two weeks ago and after 13 months away from regular exercise I can tell you that the calories contained in one Rich Tea biscuit require 11 minutes on an exercise bike. This is going to take some time... |

I'm just eating what I fancy now, which to be honest isn't as bad as it used to be before being diagnosed.
I keep track of my sugars, so that I know if what I am eating is bad, and I make sure I keep below 2,000 calories a day. Any exercise is then more calories I'm allowed for that day, and If I don't use them, they count towards my weight loss lol. I walk my daughter to school every morning, so that an extra 400 calories, and I like to be out and walking at the weekend. I usually skip lunch at the weekend aswell. I was at 21 stone back in October, so I would say it was a lot easier to lose the weight than if I started at the 17 stone Im at now.

I am not a doctor however, all I'm saying is what my research and my dad's research came up with. This included books like those by Michael Moseley, and the dissection of poor studies by a doctor called Zoe Harcombe who has a regular blog which breaks down these studies to see where their influence came from, as well as how that may impact their objectivity. |
