Should I concern if the preowned car I purchased had 20k miles/year milliage
Im using the pictures posted on the dealer website because I did not pick up the car yet (down payment already paid). It was scheduled to be at 20th July. The actual car seems exactly as those picture shown but bit more dusty outside. Not sure how long it was sitting in dealer for. I checked carproof for the vehicle history. one owner and no reported accident, seems very good. But I also found 2 things I might concern. First, the car was delivered to the original owner at 05/19/2017 (but built in September 2016, demo car?), and within 6 months til 11/17/2017, it traveled for 16,712 KM (10384 miles) as recorded, which equivalent to 20k miles per year. Is it normal? Second, the car at the moment I made the purchase (few days ago in July), the odometer showed 16,79x km. So the car basically were not driven since last year winter. And probably was sitting in somewhere for a long time. Should I be concern about those things? First timer buying preowned car, I think Im just too anxious. Some additional contexts: 2017 440iX pre LCI 45570 cad (34,814.34 usd) + 13% tax Active LED Headlights, Driver Assistance Package, Premium Package Enhanced, metalic black, msrp 71440 cad (54,578usd). 1. Why should there be any concerned about mileage? These are cars that are meant to be driven. Assuming supporting document are valid with no accidents, it was a car that was used.
2. Not uncommon for pre-owned cars to be sitting for extended period of times but depending on what's listed for the car, the dealership may perform a quick PDI to ensure everything is within spec and of course a safety will need be performed and provided. Also based on model, the car still falls under BMW no-charge maintenance so if any fluid services are due, the dealer should perform then ahead of delivery but if nothing is due yet, you might want to swap out at least the engine oil after taking delivery. |

The mileage is within the range of being reasonable. The vehicle is still under factory warranty. Thorough pre-inspection delivery will give you a peace of mind.

Hopefully you purchased under a CPO (Certified Preowned) if that is available in Canada. In the USA it gives you some additional warranty coverage.
Seems like a nice coupe ...... Enjoy!

most likely it was used by a corporate sales guy who traveled a lot for work. Good thing is that it would most likely be all highway miles

A short-term high mileage car typically means most of the miles driven are highway miles, which is the least stressful way to drive an engine.

Since it's still has less 20,000kms on it and I'm sure you'll be getting CPO warranty, I wouldn't worry about it. I agree with the poster above, it was most likely hwy mileage and got costly for the owner.
Also, it hasn't gotten enough mileage yet to worry about resale value whenever you decide to sell. I drove my 340i a little over 30,000km/year for the first year as I moved further from everything/everyone - until we got a second car that is. Zero problems
